Gundy Says Rudolph Has ‘Been Fine’ and Could Have Practiced Last Week

Mike Gundy noted after the West Virginia game on Saturday that Mason Rudolph did not practice in the week leading up to OSU’s tilt in Morgantown. He did not mention what the injury was, only that he was “dinged.”

“He didn’t practice at all,” Gundy told reporters after the game. “He needed rest. He just got dinged a little bit. He’s fine.”

Then on Monday Gundy was asked a very specific question at his press conference.

Reporter: “Mike, how is Mason’s shoulder doing?”

Gundy (when he spoke): “Well he’s fine. He’s been fine.”

He did not elaborate or affirm that Rudolph’s shoulder was actually injured, but he did go more in depth later on in his press conference on what actually took place last week with QB1.

“He was tired,” said Gundy. “Mason was tired. He was beat up, sore. Still playing good, but I just thought he needed a break. He could have practiced last week.

“After the game, I blamed you guys and said I was misquoted, but actually I went back and listened to my quote and I wasn’t misquoted. I was hoping to blame y’all. He practiced a little bit Thursday, but that’s not a real practice for us. What I was referring to was Tuesday and Wednesday.

“He needed a break. His body was beat up. He took some hits in the Texas game. He’s not following the philosophy of getting down, and he’s running through people. I’m not fired up about it, but obviously I can’t control him when he’s in there playing.”

Rudolph was just 20/34 for 216 yards and 3 TD on Saturday. He also rushed it twice for five yards and another touchdown. He said after the game that he would be 100 percent for the OU game this weekend. I think that’s one of the eight biggest storylines going into the weekend, and only No. 2 will know how good he is for the biggest game of the year.
