Hammonds Questionable, Kolb Out on Initial Player Availability Report
OSU is without its starting tight end and could be without another safety.

Quinton Hammonds’ status is up in the air entering the Cowboys’ trip to Ames, and Carson Kolb won’t play.
Hammonds, a starting safety at Oklahoma State, was listed as questionable on the initial player availability report for Saturday’s game. Meanwhile, Kolb — OSU’s starting tight end — was ruled out entirely. Both were injured in Cowboys’ 57-24 win against Colorado last week.
Despite missing essentially a whole half of football, Hammonds still leads all OSU defenders in snap count by 28, per PFF. His absence would be extra notable considering the Cowboys lost Mose Phillips, another starting safety, to injury in the UCF game.
“Q, hoping to get him, I mean, hopefully, he can work back into it this week,” Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris said Tuesday. “I mean, we’ll see kind of how the week goes right now as that stuff all comes out, but hopeful that we can get Q back.”
With Hammonds out in the second half of that Colorado game, Evan Jackson and Cameron Epps were playing safety for the Pokes.
Kolb has been the Cowboys’ primary tight end to this point in the season. He’s played 370 snaps. The next-closest OSU tight end is Morgan McPhaul at 67.
It’s never an ideal time for an injury, but the Cowboys had been ramping up Oscar Hammond in recent weeks, with Hammond playing a season-high 38 snaps against Colorado this past weekend.
Kolb has caught seven passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns this season. Hammond made his first snag of the year against Colorado, a 15-yard gain.
Hammond joined the Cowboys ahead of last season, transferring from Morris and North Texas. Hammond was injured in the preseason and missed the entire year just for his old coach to take the OSU job.
Elsewhere on the player availability report, Landon Dean was listed as questionable after missing the past three games. Freshman receiver Dayvon Standard is also questionable, while defensive end Malik Charles in probable. Of note, starting left guard Johnny Dickson — who also left Saturday’s game with injury — wasn’t on the report.
Iowa State backup quarterback Connor Moberly was listed as questionable. The Cyclones pulled starter Jaylen Raynor during last weekend’s game, putting Moberly in. But ISU coach Jimmy Rogers said Tuesday Raynor will get the start against the Cowboys.
