Hear What Mike Gundy Said After OSU’s 31-12 Loss to Kansas State

MANHATTAN — Mike Gundy isn’t hitting the panic button after OSU’s 31-12 loss to Kansas State on Saturday.

OSU’s head coach instead said after the game that it’s full steam ahead, as always, as the Cowboys prepare for the bye and a much-needed recovery week before Texas for homecoming.

“This is a week-to-week deal,” said Gundy. “You can’t panic. Can’t do that. We have to look and see what we’re doing, where we’re at, why there’s mistakes being made.

“We’re certainly aware of the situation,” he added. “We know what’s going on. We’re trying to do what we can as soon as possible to fix them. And the approach hasn’t changed for years for me.”

Kansas State captured a 10-6 lead in the third quarter and never looked behind its shoulder, cruising to a double-digit lead in the fourth and never relinquishing it.

Meanwhile, again, OSU struggled with penalties as it did last week and for much of the season. The newest deficiency — an inefficient offense that didn’t score a touchdown until the game was all but over — is another concern to add to a budding list.

“I thought we had good schemes,” said Gundy. “Defensively, when they start pushing us around a little bit late in the third quarter, and offensively we stood with the ball very good. So as a coach, you look at it and say, you know, was there times that we had good protection and had guys open, we didn’t throw it or hit them? You can’t count that down as a bad play or a bad rep, you gotta say hey we gotta be able to execute that. Then you go to, are we doing something so much that we aren’t getting quality reps? That’s kind of what I am talking about. There’s a lot of different ways to look at it, you gotta come up with the best plan, put it all together and from that point move forward.”

Below is Gundy’s full postgame press conference from Saturday.
