How ‘Super Electric’ Tre Page Made the Jump from FCS to Become a Cowboy
“I always believed in myself and my skill.”
STILLWATER — Running back Tre Page is one of only six non-walk-ons on Oklahoma State’s roster this spring without FBS experience.
Add in the fact that he’s one of the few at his position who showed up without a direct link to both head coach Eric Morris and running backs coach Patrick Cobbs and his landing spot with the Cowboys seems somewhat surprising.
Unless you’re Page himself.
“I always believed in myself and my skill,” Page said when asked if he imagined playing Power Four football in his college career. “But it is great to be here and see that I truly am living out my dream as a kid.”
Page began his career at Tarleton State. After two games and almost zero touches in his freshman season, Page broke out in 2025 to the tune of a team-high 839 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 112 carries.
His 7.5 average yards per carry put him 1.3 yards above anyone else on the team who rushed at least 20 times.
In high school, Page averaged 9 yards a carry and recorded 1,290 yards and 16 touchdowns across 20 games as a junior and senior. He also took first place in the Georgia state championship track meet in the 4×100-meter and the 4×200-meter relays during his final season.
“I feel like I’m faster than most people,” Page said, referencing his track background. “So I’d able to be out on the angles and stuff like that. And I feel like I’m shifty too. I can make a guy miss in space.”
According to Pro Football Focus Page forced 35 missed tackles as a runner last season and averaged 3.33 yards after contact.
Offensive lines certainly come into play with these stats, but for context, Rodney Fields and Trent Howland combined to force 28 missed tackles last season and averaged 3.36 and 3.03 yards after contact, respectively.
Page’s efforts earned him the 64th and 85th ranking at his position during this portal cycle according to 247Sports and On3, respectively. Page said he was overwhelmed by all the interest he received which included at least a few other P4 schools.
“Out of the portal my recruitment was kind of big,” Page said. “But when it all came down to it, I went with where I felt comfortable with.”
Page credited Cobbs with making him feel good about the decision to come to Stillwater. Earlier this offseason starting back Caleb Hawkins made similar statements which boiled a lot of his decision down to Cobbs’ involvement.
“That feels great. … you’re trying to build a relationship so fast,” Cobbs said when he heard what Page said. “And when everything clicks and you know that, hey, listen, I want you to be the best person you can be. … And I want every one of these kids to be better than me, every one of these kids to go out and compete their tail off. And you know, you can’t hide that. You can’t really fake it, and it’s real. And so I think that’s, that’s kind of the things that they sense.”
Page said there’s a lot to like about his new school. While many of the additional resources were expected in the jump from FCS to P4, the running back said he was surprised by the nutrition program. Speaking of which, it sounds like the running back previously listed at 184 pounds has taken full advantage considering he’s put on somewhere between 10-15 pounds since arriving in Stillwater.
That weight gain was definitely encouraged by the coaches, although it would be surprising to see him put on much more considering what the coaching staff liked about his film in the first place.
“Kid’s super electric,” Cobbs said. “He’s fast, he’s twitchy, he’s super physical, super tough kid in the pass game blocking. I just like his scrappiness. And he’s a good compliment, you know. So they just, they all bring something different to the table. You know, Trey’s not like anybody else in the room. … It makes the room stronger.”
