After two years apart, Ayo Adeyi is reuniting with Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris.

Adeyi announced his commitment to OSU via Instagram on Monday morning. He was a 1,000-yard rusher for Morris at UNT in 2023 before transferring to James Madison. In the past two seasons as a Duke, Adeyi played in eight games, running for 160 yards and a touchdown.

Adeyi was actually at North Texas pre-Morris. Morris got there in 2023, Adeyi in 2021. But Adeyi got to Denton when new OSU running backs coach Patrick Cobbs was there.

His college career started at Division-II Harding in 2020, but D-II didn’t play that year because of the pandemic. Adeyi was in Denton by 2021. He was a Conference USA All-Freshman selection that year, running for 496 yards and six touchdowns on 84 carries.

Adeyi’s ascent continued in 2022 when he ran for 807 yards and four scores on 112 carries. Then Morris got to town, and Adeyi broke the 1,000-yard threshold, going for 1,017 yards and six touchdowns on 143 carries.

Injury stunted his 2024 season at JMU after just two games, and Adeyi played four regular season games (six in total) while maintaining his redshirt this past season.

He is a career 6.5-yard-per-carry rusher across 383 totes at the Division-I level.

Adeyi becomes the second running back the Pokes have landed via the portal, joining North Texas freshman Caleb Hawkins, who led the country in rushing touchdowns this past season.
