King of the Game Recap: OSU vs. Texas Tech

Published

Whew.

The Cardiac Cowboys returned with a W last night and head into a welcomed bye week which gives the fans’ hearts and the offensive line a chance to heal. OSU is now 4-1 and heads into a much-needed week off.

It’s so much more fun to award our players points after a win than after a loss. Every player gets a point for a correct pick. We tally up the points each week and the player with the most points at the end of OSU’s season (bowl game included) wins! Wins what? Bragging rights.

Before we do that, let’s recap our categories from the week. (Here is the original post.)

• Bet Against the Spread: OSU -9.5
For the second straight week, OSU did not reach Vegas’ expectations. It looked like they might in the third quarter, until Tech scored those two fourth quarter TDs to tie it up.

• More Passing Yards: Mason Rudolph or Nic Shimonek
Rudolph won this battle going 27-of-38 for 376 yards. Simonek was close with 330 yards on 29-of-46 passing.

• Over/Under: 13.5 receivers with a catch
Wow. 15 different players caught a pass. OSU had eight while Tech had seven. That’s… a lot.

• King of the Game: Receiver (OSU or TTU)
The options were Keke Coutee, James Washington, and Marcell Ateman. Coutee might have won this if he didn’t get injured. However, it comes down to Washington and Ateman. While Washington had more catches, more yards, and a touchdown, it’s hard to ignore that catch Ateman made on the game-winning drive that kept it alive. Because of that, I’m picking Ateman this week.

Alright, let’s tally up the points.

Phillip – 3 points

Bet Against the Spread: Texas Tech
More Passing Yards: Mason Rudolph
Over/Under: Under
King of the Game: Keke Coutee
Prop Bet: There will be at least two trick plays in this game, including a fake punt/field goal.
I’m giving myself this one and counting the onside kick Tech recovered.

Kyle Cox – 2 points

Bet Against the Spread: Texas Tech
More Passing Yards: Mason Rudolph
Over/Under: Under
King of the Game: James Washington
Prop Bet: Either Dillon Stoner returns a punt for a touchdown or Jalen McCleskey fumbles one.
Nope and nope.

Nick Welch – 3 points

Bet Against the Spread: Texas Tech
More Passing Yards: Mason Rudolph
Over/Under: Under
King of the Game: James Washington
Prop Bet: Either Tech or OSU fail to score a touchdown in a quarter.
Winner winner! Tech only scored a field goal in the third quarter.

Enemy: Zach Mason – 3 points

Bet Against the Spread: Texas Tech
More Passing Yards: Mason Rudolph
Over/Under: Over
King of the Game: Keke Coutee
Prop Bet: Number of times Patrick Mahomes’ name is mentioned — Over/under at 3.
This was a little confusing. I know the announcers mentioned Mahomes at least once, but that’s not enough to earn the point.

Fan: KSPokesfan – 3 points

Bet Against the Spread: OSU
More Passing Yards: Nic Shimonek
Over/Under: Over
King of the Game: Marcell Ateman
Prop Bet: Both teams will have at least four plays over forty yards and at least one turnover for each team.
He got both right. Unfortunately, he only gets one point for it.

Totals:

Fan – 15
Enemy – 14
Nick – 9
Phillip – 8
Kyle – 8

Of course. Us PFB staffers finally have good weeks, and it makes zero difference in the standings. I’m going to have to start making these harder (or cheating).

Since we’re on a bye week, we’ll wait to pick a guest picker for homecoming.
