Mason Rudolph Agrees to Two-Year Deal to Return to the Pittsburgh Steelers
Rudolph heads back to the Steel City.
After one year away, Mason Rudolph is headed back to the Steel City.
The former Oklahoma State quarterback has agreed to a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers worth $8 million, with $4.5 million in guaranteed earnings.
Pittsburgh drafted Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft as a potential QB in waiting behind Ben Roethlisberger. After sitting for a year, Rudolph was called into action in 2019 when Roethlisberger missed the majority of the season due to injury. The second-year passer played in 10 games and started eight, going 5-3 in his best season.
Bouncing in and out of the lineup over the next three seasons, Rudolph amassed a total of 3,085 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with the Steelers and was 8-4-1 as a starter.
Rudolph spent last year in the dysfunctional quarterback carousel that spun round with the Tennessee Titans. He wet 1-4 as a starter and threw for 1,530 yards, nine TDs and nine INTs.
The Steelers are still trying to land a starting QB for next season, being one several teams in the sweepstakes to land 41-year-old four-time All-Pro Aaron Rodgers. Russell Wilson, 36, who spent last year with the Steelers going 6-5, is also reportedly in the mix.
Throwing for the Steelers has already gotten a little more fun this offseason, with Pittsburgh bringing in DK Metcalf from Seattle.
Rudolph was at Oklahoma State from 2014 to 2017. He’s the program’s all-time leader in passing yards (13,618) and passing touchdowns (92).
