NFL Roundup: Chris Carson Scores First TD, Dez Throws up the X in Arizona

Week 3 of the NFL season is in the books and several former Pokes made plays. Let’s dive right in starting with a long-shot rookie who’s paid it off so far for his new team.

Chris Carson

For the third-straight week, Chris Carson got the nod to start in Seattle’s backfield. He’s been the Seahawks’ best back in the young season and looks more and more like the established starter. Carson has played 117 snaps this season to Thomas Rawls’ 17 and Eddie Lacy’s 7, with CJ Prosise the backup at this point.

Carson led the team with 34 rushing yards and added two catches including his first career touchdown. Check it out.

Dez Bryant

Dez also got a score, marking his second in as many weeks as the Cowboys defeated the Arizona Cardinals on the road.

Bryant has struggled to find a real connection with quarterback Dak Prescott early this season. He was targeted only twice while matched up against Pro Bowl corner Patrick Peterson but made them both count for two catches and 12 yards including this impressive score. Despite his decreased role in the offense, Dez is still as physical and as good after-the-catch as any receiver in football.

Check out the wicked side-step that put safety Tyvon Branch on his butt and then the effort after contact to get into pay dirt. Jon Gruden on the call: “That’s one of the great efforts you’ll ever see from a wide receiver.”

Dez also hit a milestone with that score giving him 69 touchdowns through his first 100 games. That’s the sixth-best total in NFL history.

Dan Bailey

Bailey didn’t attempt a field goal but went 4-for-4 on extra point attempts against the Cardinals. He put four of his five kickoffs in the end zone and three were touchbacks.

Lane Taylor

Taylor’s Green Bay Packers got the overtime win over Cincinnati on Sunday with a comeback effort. Unfortunately, he and his group allowed six sacks. The future Hall of Fame quarterback has been sacked 13 times through three weeks, more than any other quarterback in the NFL.

Emmanuel Ogbah

His Browns nearly got the win in Indianapolis but fell 31-28 to the Colts. But Ogbah was able to make his presence known in the running game with two solo tackles and four assists all on future Hall of Fame tailback Frank Gore. He also got his first sack of the early season on Jacoby Brissett.

Vincent Taylor

The rookie logged one tackle and two assists in his second professional game as his Miami Dolphins fell 20-6 to the New York Jets.

Russell Okung

The former top-10 pick was the subject of an ESPN feature over the weekend, not for his strong play on the field but for his technology interests, his relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey victims and his aspirations to become the first black NFL owner. You should check it out.

On the field, Okung’s Chargers are 0-3 but lost its first two games by a combined five points. In Week 3, the Bolts were within 7 of the Kansas City Chiefs with several shots to tied it late before Kansas City rookie phenom Kareem Hunt broke loose for a 69-yard touchdown with two minutes remaining. Okung has done his job though with Philip Rivers only been sacked four times this season.
