NFL Update: Weeden Takes Final Knee, Chris Carson Running Over Everybody
Chris Carson leaves defenders in his wake.
Several former Pokes made plays this weekend but let’s start with the scoring play that was equal parts eye-popping and nostalgic for OSU fans.
A Good Old-Fashioned Chris Carson Truck-Stick
Carson had his third 100-plus yard game on Sunday as the Seahawks downed the Lions 28-14. He ended with 105 yards on 25 carries, this binge-worthy TD, and caught both of his targets for 19 yards as a receiver.
Carson is proving to be Seattle’s bell cow and they rode him to a victory on Sunday. Have a gander at his highlights from the big day.
Tre Flowers Becoming a Fixture in Seattle
The former Cowboy safety-turned Seahawk corner continues to solidify himself as a Seattle’s starting cover man. He played in all 59 snaps on defense and logged three total tackles and a pass defended on Pro Bowl wideout Golden Tate.
Check out this coverage on Marvin Jones Jr.
Former Oklahoma State safety turned Seahawks standout rookie CB Tre Flowers. Impressive transition and acceleration for 6-3, 203 pounds & 33 7/8” arms.

Through six starts, Flowers has put together a nice start to his NFL career and has even earned some respect around the league for his athleticism and coverage skills.
The Lions and their Pro Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford – formerly the NFL’s highest paid player – showed a lot of respect for Flowers over the first half, opting not to target the one-time Oklahoma State strong safety making just his sixth professional start. Stafford only attempted a few passes in Flowers’ direction over the first half, with the rookie doing his best impression of a previous Seahawks fifth round pick – Richard Sherman – on his suffocating coverage of this deep ball. Lane Taylor, Pit Master
In a story close to my own heart, The Athletic chronicled the former OSU lineman’s bye week in Wisconsin as he treated its staff and some of his teammates to some succulent meats. The man whose No. 1 job is protecting a future Hall of Famer in Aaron Rodgers, likes to spend his down time manning a pit. Or more specifically his Traeger pellet smoker. It’s a great read which I recommend, especially for you fellow grill heads.
Taylor and his Packers returned from the bye week with a road trip to the undefeated LA Rams and almost pulled off the upset. And it appears the extra protein helped as he did his best to fend off Pro Bowl D-Tackle Aaron Donald.

Russell Okung Missed Call Results in Referee Firing
Okung and his Chargers were on a bye in Week 8 but that didn’t keep the former OSU offensive tackle out of the news. In Week 8, Los Angeles blew out the Cleveland Browns 38-14, but a missed false start by Okung that ended in a Chargers TD. The official that missed that call, down judge Hugo Cruz, was fired last week. It is the first midseason firing of an official by the NFL during the Super Bowl era.
Football Zebras exclusive: Down judge Hugo Cruz, who missed a clear false start in Week 6, has been fired by the NFL. This is the first midseason firing in the Super Bowl era. https://t.co/RfxSfqb6j8

Here’s a look at that play.
One-Liners
• Emmanuel Ogbah had two combined tackles and a tackle for loss during the Browns’ 33-18 loss to the Steelmen.
• Vincent Taylor left the Dolphins’ Thursday night loss to the Texans with a foot injury and his status for Week 9 is unclear.
• James Washington’s reps have been on the incline the previous three weeks, but Sunday he was inactive for the first time (apparently not due to injury).
• Tyler Patmon went down with a neck injury in Week 7 and logged a DNP and inactive for the Jaguars’ 24-18 loss to the Eagles.
• Brandon Weeden took his first NFL snap in three seasons when he took a knee to end a 42-23 win over Miami for Deshaun Watson who had apparently already headed to the locker room. But he looked good coming to and from the game regardless.
Also: Deshaun Watson apparently didn't realize this and was already back in the locker room when Houston ran the perfunctory final play. Brandon Weeden had to come in for a kneel down.

• Dan Bailey missed one of his three extra-point attempts during the Vikings’ 30-20 loss to the Saints, but did not attempt a field goal. He’s 11-of-14 from 3 so far during his Minnesota tenure.
