Nick Martin, Collin Oliver Test Well at NFL Combine
The two Cowboys were among the best in their position groups.
Defensive linemen and linebackers got the drill portion of the NFL Combine started on Thursday, which means a pair of Cowboys took to the field.
Oklahoma State’s Nick Martin and Collin Oliver scored among the best in their positions in the drills. Martin and Oliver were both with the linebackers on the televised portion of the drills, but the NFL’s combine tracker lists Oliver among edge rushers. Because of that, I’ll list Oliver’s times compared to the field at both positions.
The Cowboys had solid 40 times. Measuring in at 5-foot-11.5 and 221 pounds, Martin ran a 4.53 on his first attempt (with a beanie on), which ended up being good for fifth among linebackers. He ran a 4.55 on his second attempt (no beanie).

Oliver, measuring in at 6-2, 220, ran a 4.56 on his first attempt, which would have been second among edge rushers and was sixth among linebackers. He ran a 4.60 on attempt No. 2.
UCLA’s Kain Medrano was the fastest linebacker, running a 4.46. Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr. was the quickest edge rusher, running a 4.47 (at 6-5, 245 pounds!).
Martin came fourth among linebackers in the 10-yard split at 1.54 seconds. Oliver’s 1.57 was second among edge rushers and would’ve tied for eighth among linebackers.
Oliver actually outjumped Martin. Oliver had a 39-inch vertical to Martin’s 38 inches. Oliver’s jump ranked third among edge rushers and third among linebackers. Martin’s leap was fourth among linebackers. Then in the broad jump, Oliver leapt 10-feet, 6-inches, which tied for third among edge rushers and third among linebackers. Martin’s 10-foot, 3-inch jump was fourth among linebackers.
Arkansas’ Landon Jackson led edge rushers in the vertical at 40.5 inches. Cal’s Teddye Buchanan jumped 40 inches to lead the linebackers.
The NFL’s Next Gen Stats has an Athleticism Score, and Martin has an 84 (of of 100), which currently ranks first among linebackers with the 3-cone drill, the 20-yard shuttle and the bench press still to go. Oliver has an 80, ranking fourth among edge rushers.
Ollie Gordon gets on the field Saturday, with the quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs all taking the field. That’s set to start at 1 p.m. Saturday on NFL Network.
