Oklahoma State, Alabama, Clemson, USC Among Favorites to Win Title

When the 2018 national championship odds came out in January, Oklahoma State was at 20-1 to win it all. The same as Clemson and, uh, Texas, according to Westgate Las Vegas Superbook. Eight months later, they’re one of the six heaviest favorites to hoist the national championship trophy in January.

As of Monday, the top six title favorites are Alabama, Clemson, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Oklahoma State. OSU has leapfrogged Michigan, Florida State, LSU and Louisville en route to that 10-1 number.

National Championship Odds
Team Opening Odds (1/7) Current Odds (9/18)
Alabama 3/1 9/5
Clemson 20/1 6/1
USC 8/1 6/1
Oklahoma 8/1 7/1
Ohio State 8/1 7/1
Oklahoma State 20/1 10/1
Penn State 25/1 12/1
Washington 30/1 20/1
Georgia 30/1 20/1
Wisconsin 40/1 20/1
Michigan 12/1 20/1
Virginia Tech 40/1 30/1
Florida State 8/1 30/1
LSU 12/1 40/1
Miami 30/1 50/1
Auburn 25/1 80/1
Louisville 10/1 100/1
Kansas State 30/1 300/1
Texas 20/1 300/1

This is not surprising, or it shouldn’t be given the way OSU has played thus far this season. But it’s still a little unnerving to see written down on paper. There is obviously a long way to go, though, which Mike Gundy noted on Saturday after OSU’s 59-21 throttling of Pitt.

However, it’s beginning to look like Bedlam I and/or Bedlam II will be for a spot in the CFB Playoff. And some have even posited that there could be a Bedlam III.

We have a lot of games to sort through between now and then of course, and it would be an absolute stunner to see two (!) Big 12 teams in the CFP a year after this conference sent zero for the second time in three years. No matter what happens, it’s fun to see Oklahoma State thrust into the conversation nationally, even if it’s still mid-September.
