Oklahoma State Pushing for Texas A&M QB Commit Grant Gunnell

There’s blood in the water when it comes to the class of 2019’s top quarterback recruit Grant Gunnell.

The pro-style QB has been committed to Texas A&M since June. But according to Billy Embody at 247Sports, Gunnell is reportedly rethinking his commitment to Texas A&M.

After discussions with new Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher and watching the offers being dished out to quarterbacks, Gunnell thinks there might not be a place for him in the new offense in College Station.

While Gunnell is still currently committed, Fisher’s numerous scholarship offers to quarterbacks has Gunnell questioning his decision. Other schools have taken notice, including Oklahoma State. The Cowboys join Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Purdue and TCU among schools making a push to sway Gunnell just-in-case in decides to decommit.

OSU remains in the running for the star QB, thanks to the efforts of oft-criticized offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurich took the patient approach to Gunnell’s recruitment, after being one of the first to offer the rising senior.

“I really like coach Yurich. When I committed, he said he’ll always be there for me if things change,” said the No. 38 overall quarterback. “I’ve talked with him every now and again and it’s a school I really like.”

Another factor to keep an eye on in Gunnell’s recruitment is the relationship he has with 2019 Oklahoma State commit Grayson Boomer. Boomer’s been vocal in recruiting Gunnell since his Cowboy commitment, and the two have a strong connection both on and off the field.

Landing a player of Gunnell’s talent would be huge, even with talented quarterback Spencer Sanders joining the team this fall. It could also be the second domino Oklahoma State is looking for to lure more top-rated recruits to Stillwater.

Sometimes all it takes is one or two top guys, like Boomer and Gunnell to commit, to convince others to do so too.

While there is plenty still up in the air, and a long time to go between now and the 2019 December signing period, it’s certainly an important story to keep an eye on.
