Oklahoma State’s X Receiver Spot Set to Get Injection of Youth in 2021

STILLWATER — Kasey Dunn has kept his cupboard of receivers quite full over the years, and some of his young guys will have a major opportunity on the outside in 2021.

Dunn, Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator and receivers coach, is tasked with replacing a lot after starters Tylan Wallace, Dillon Stoner and Landon Wolf all moved on. Washington State transfer Tay Martin is set to fill in for Wallace at OSU’s Z spot. In the slot, Brennan Presley steps up the depth chart and Braydon Johnson moves in from the outside.

However, filling in Johnson’s vacancy isn’t as cut and dry as the rest of those moves. Dunn mentioned Sunday that Blaine Green, Bryson Green, Langston Anderson and Jaden Bray will all get looks at X.

The Green twins and Jaden Bray are true freshmen who benefited from joining the program in January to go through spring ball.

Bryson Green was the higher ranked of the twins out of high school, but Blaine has earned just as much praise through the spring, summer and early in fall. Bryson is listed at 6-1, 205 and Blaine at 6-1, 215 on OSU’s roster, but Dunn said they’re both closer to 220, quite physically imposing for true freshmen.

Bray had an outstanding outing in the spring game, where he caught a pair of touchdown passes and had another big gain on an out-and-up. He was a lesser-known recruit, making his mystique all the more interesting. He was the No. 979 player in the 2021 class out of Norman High. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 187 pounds on OSU’s fall roster.

Anderson has dealt with injuries early in his career and is entering his redshirt sophomore season, but he was one of the crown jewels of the Pokes’ 2019 class. A former four-star standout from Texas, Anderson is listed at 6-foot, 202 pounds and has apparently already made a few highlight reel grabs this fall.

Those four guys have a combined one catch for eight yards at the college level. Anderson had the catch against McNeese in 2019. The talent seems to be there, but youth will be on display opposite Martin in 2021.

“When freshmen come in like that in January, they learn where Walmart is,” Dunn said. “They know where to go get their hair cut. When they come in in August, that’s not the case. They’re figuring everything out. They knew all those things within the first month and just continually started to grow, and grow, and grow.

“[The Green twins are] going to factor into the season in a big way. Trying those guys out at the X position right now, amongst other guys. Langston (Anderson) is over there as well, and I might even put Jaden Bray over there and check that thing out. [The twins are] certainly the frontrunners for that spot right now.”
