OSU Basketball Commit Ben Ahmed Leads Putnam Science Academy to National Prep Championship
Ahmed dropped 20 in the final.
The Cowboys’ latest basketball commit won a national title and took home an MVP to go with it this week.
Ben Ahmed, a four-star center who committed to Oklahoma State on March 1, led Putnam Science Academy to the program’s fifth National Prep Championship on Thursday, when the Mustangs beat St. Thomas More (Connecticut) 79-72. Ahmed was the game’s MVP, finishing with 20 points and four rebounds in 23 minutes on the floor. In four games at the event, Ahmed averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds a game while shooting 52% from the field.

This is the fifth time PSA has won the tournament in the past seven seasons, as the Mustangs also won during Ahmed’s sophomore season and came second last year. That’s a lot of success for one program, and Ahmed closes his PSA career as the program’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder.
“He’s going to go up there as one of, if not the greatest player ever to play here,” said PSA coach Tom Espinosa.
Originally from Nigeria, Ahmed is ranked as highly as the No. 54 player in the 2025 class (Rivals). Listed at 6-foot-9, 275 pounds, Ahmed also has about a 7-foot-3 wingspan.
He initially signed with Miami during the early signing period but was able to reopen his recruitment after then-Miami coach Jim Larranaga suddenly stepped down in December, citing frustrations with the NIL landscape among the reasons for the move. Ahmed took a visit to Stillwater and committed to Steve Lutz and the Cowboys shortly thereafter.
Ahmed is one of three pledges in Lutz’s first OSU recruiting class, joining four-star sharpshooter Ryan Crotty and three-star big man Mekhi Ragland. Crotty and Ragland signed during the early period. Together, the trio gives OSU the No. 28 class in the country, according to 247Sports. That’s good for the No. 5 team in the Big 12.
