Davis is easily a top-five available player in the transfer portal across all positions.

The hunt to land a point guard out of the transfer portal for Oklahoma State continues.

The same week OSU’s staff reached out to Coastal Carolina guard Rudi Washington, the staff this week has also apparently been in communication with another major name in the portal: Kendric Davis.

Davis, a point guard out of SMU, announced Wednesday that the Cowboys are one of many schools to have contacted him since entering the portal earlier this week. The others include OU, Florida, Kansas, Memphis, Gonzaga, Louisville, and honestly … maybe it’s easier to list who hasn’t reached out?

Davis is a wanted man. A 6-foot, 180-pound point guard, he played at SMU last season as a senior and dominated, earning AAC Player of the Year honors. A three-time All-AAC performer, he averaged 17.5 points and 5.9 assists in three seasons with SMU. Prior to that, he went one-and-done with TCU, where he averaged 6.3 points and 2.0 assists per game as a freshman.

Davis is coming off his best production of his career. As a senior at SMU he averaged 19.4 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game while hitting 37.2% of his 3s and 50.5% of his 2s. It wasn’t empty calorie production, either: SMU finished the season 24-9 and second in the AAC regular season race.

With more than 1,200 players in the transfer portal, Davis has a case of being the best player available on the market, so getting him wouldn’t be easy for OSU. It’d no doubt fill a void, though, and with the staff in hunt mode to fill the point guard spot for 2022, he’d easily be the best option among the many currently in play to fill the spot.
