OSU Softball: Cowgirls Remain in Top 10 in Polls Following 2-2 Start
The Cowgirls head to Clearwater for another tough slate.
The Cowgirls went 2-2 for in the opening weekend at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. The competition was stiff, but it will only get stiffer.
Oklahoma State dropped from No. 4 to No. 9 in Softball America’s ranking and remained in the Top 10 in all four major polls:
- No. 9 in the Softball America Top 25
- No. 9 in the D1Softball Top 25
- No. 10 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25
- No. 9 in the NFCA/GoRout DI Top 25 Coaches Poll
The Cowgirls beat No. 9 Florida State 9-6 in their opening on Thursday before splitting their two games Friday. They fell 6-1 to Louisiana Tech, but rebounded with a run-rule win against Northern Colorado before getting run-ruled themselves by the Seminoles.
The Cowgirls came into the season ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 preseason poll, receiving nine off 11 first-place votes, but they’ve got a meat-grinder of a noncon slate to get to before they start league play. The competition doesn’t get any easier this weekend when they’ll play three teams ranked in Softball America’s Top 15.
OSU heads to the 2025 Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Florida. The Cowgirls will kick of the event with a double-header on Valentine’s Day. They face No. 4 UCLA at 2 p.m. on Friday and then Kentucky at 5 p.m. They’ll face No.5 Texas A&M and Auburn on Saturday and No. 12 Alabama on Sunday.
