OSU Trending for Four-Star Florida Teammates

Mike Boynton and his staff haven’t yet landed a commitment in the Class of 2018, but between five-star big man David McCormack and a number of big-name point guards still considering OSU, there’s plenty of hot irons in the fire worth watching.

Among the names to watch include Emmitt Williams and Antwann Jones, a pair of top-65 prospects in the 2018 cycle. College basketball experts from 247Sports made predictions recently that suggest OSU is seriously in the mix to land a package deal for the Oak Ridge standouts from Florida.

Williams is a 6-foot-8 power forward from Florida whose offer list includes Kansas, Florida State, LSU, Florida and others. According to his 247Sports crystal ball, the in-state Gators are the favorites to land him — but the upstart Cowboys have made a run and now thrust themselves in the mix. And it seems OSU has done so by pitching a package deal that includes his teammate, Antwann Jones, who 247 predicts to be OSU-bound.

Last season, Williams played for IMG Academy but transferred this offseason to Oak Ridge after a monstrous run on the AAU circuit with E1T1.

“He’s dominant. A man-child,” Steve Reece, his coach, told the Orlando Sentinel recently. “And he’s a great person. Yes-sir, no-ma’am, no matter what. Always upbeat. He’s a hard worker in the classroom too.”

It’s still early in the recruiting cycle for 2018 (heck, Duke is still adding players to its 2017 class!), so there’s hardly a reason to panic that OSU hasn’t closed on a player this early in the process. But it’s a good sign that Boynton and his crew have caught the ear of multiple top-100 players in his short tenure, and have now positioned themselves nicely for a pair of top recruits in the class.
