OSU Wrestling Gets Commit from Two-Time Oklahoma State Champ Colt Denney
With the NCAA tournament starting today this may fly under the radar a bit, but the Cowboys received a nice pick up in two-time state champ Colt Denney out of Heritage Hall last night.

The future Cowboy is a senior at Heritage Hall and won a title at 170 pounds this year following up a repeat of his performance at 160 last year.
The Cowboys have one of the best wrestlers on the planet coming in with this class who also wrestles at 170 in Travis Wittlake, Wittlake projects as a 174. OSU has another big name in Anthony Montalvo who projects at 184. The future at 165 hasn’t really been solidified though, so a move down a weight could give Denney a shot to start in a few years and have a solid impact on the program. Also if that group bumps up a weight, which may happen with Wittlake going to 184 and Montalvo 197, Denney could potentially jump in at 174.
I wrote a few weeks ago on how scholarships in wrestling typically go and based on that and the fact that OSU already has some firepower signed around this weight class I would assume Denney isn’t getting a big chunk of scholarship dollars to wrestle here.
As Cowboy fans you should genuinely appreciate these kids because knowing that and the fact that he probably had other opportunities to wrestle elsewhere for more money, it’s big for the OSU program to pick up kids like this. Especially when they may be asked to contribute. If he develops like we saw Eli Hale develop he could jump in with this group of blue chips OSU has signed, committed and on the roster and potentially put them over the top as a team in a few years.
