Wrestling didn’t stop when the college season ended.

The 2024 Olympic Team Trials to make Team USA will be April 19-20, and though two former Oklahoma State wrestlers will already be competing there, seven more Cowboys are still trying to qualify for the chance at representing their country. Five current and two former Cowboys will participate in the 2024 Last Chance Olympic Team Trials Qualifier on Saturday and Sunday in Fairfax, Virginia. With 18 spots open, the champion of each bracket will earn a berth into the Olympic Team Trials.

Two-time NCAA champion Dean Heil will compete at 65 kg. Heil, 29, has never made Team USA in his international career since finishing his OSU career in 2018. He’s been an assistant coach at Campbell since his college wrestling career ended while training for his international career. Wyatt Sheets will compete at 74 kg.

Current Cowboys participating at the Last Chance Olympic Team Trials Qualifier include Jordan Williams (65 kg), Carter Young (65 kg), Cutter Sheets (65 kg), Daniel Monibog (74 kg) and Christian Carroll (97 kg).

Williams is the only one of the bunch who was in OSU’s starting lineup this past season at 149 pounds. He made a run to the Big 12 final to qualify for his first NCAA Wrestling Championships as a redshirt freshman. Young was OSU’s 141-pounder the two seasons before, qualifying for the NCAA tournament both years as a freshman and sophomore. He did not make an appearance in the lineup this past season.

Freshman Christian Carroll is probably the most seasoned on the freestyle circuit, though. He was a member of the 2023 U20 USA World Team and champion of the 2023 U.S. Open. When in high school, Carroll was a junior freestyle national champion in 2021. His freestyle success helped propel Carroll to be the No. 1 pound-for-pound recruit in the 2023 class.

If any of these seven wrestlers win their bracket they would join former Cowboys Daton Fix and Alex Dieringer at the team trials. After Team USA is created, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will be July 26-Aug. 11, with wrestling starting Aug. 5. Medal matches will be on the last day of competition.
