OSU Wrestling: Three Cowboy Commits Wrestling at ‘Who’s Number One’ This Weekend
Some of the future of Cowboy wrestling is competing in Iowa this weekend.
A premier high school wrestling event is taking place this weekend in Iowa, and a trio of future Cowboys are competing.
‘Who’s Number One’ pits the top high schooler wrestlers at various weights against each other. The event takes place Saturday in Iowa with girls matches getting started at 2 p.m. (Central) before the boys take over at 5:30 p.m. The event will be streamed on Flo.
Three Oklahoma State commits are scheduled to wrestle in Rocklin Zinkin, Jayden Raney and Jordyn Raney. Two others probably had the opportunity to compete, but Jax Forrest is scheduled to wrestle at the U23 World Championships later this month, and Dreshaun Ross spends his falls on the gridiron.
Rocklin Zinkin
There are usually just two wrestlers per weight at this event, but the 120-pound bracket was too close to call, so Flo invited three.
Zinkin, the No. 2 wrestler at the weight per Flo, will take on No. 3 Domenic Munaretto (committed to Ohio State) to start the boy’s card off, and the winner will get No. 1 Landon Sidun (committed to Penn State) later in the evening.
Zinkin won Fargo in July and did so dominantly. He outscored his opponents a combined 82-16 and won in the final with an 11-0 tech. Neither Munaretto nor Sidun were in that bracket, however.
Jayden Raney
Jayden Raney is Flo’s top-ranked wrestler at 132 pounds, and he’ll square off with No. 2 Moses Mendoza (committed to Michigan).
Mendoza won Fargo, but Jayden didn’t compete at the event. He was in Europe in preparation for the Senior World Championships, where he competed on the United State’s Greco team.
Jayden is a multiple-time Fargo champ, however, along with having a U17 World gold medal in Greco.
Jordyn Raney
This event’s main event will be Jordyn Raney’s bout with Bo Bassett (committed to Virginia Tech) at 150 pounds. Bassett is the top-ranked wrestler at the weight while Jordyn ranks No. 1 at 144, per Flo.
Both guys are coming off wins at Fargo and both have one age-level world medals.
This will mark Jordyn’s second match at Who’s Number One, having previously dropping a bout with Forrest in a 33-point overtime thriller in 2023.
Jordyn beat Kellen Wolbert, a one-time OSU commit who has since flipped to Michigan, in the finals at Fargo this year in a wild 19-14 match.
Both Raney and Bassett like to score points, so this match should have some fireworks.
