End of Game: Oklahoma State 42 | Iowa State 48

4Q: 0:56: Oklahoma State 42 | Iowa State 48: Cornelius hits Tylan Wallace with the 42-yard TD to make it interesting momentarily. But the onside kick is unsuccessful and Iowa State takes and knee and the win.

4Q: 4:18: Oklahoma State 35 | Iowa State 48: Cornelius flushed out of the pocked (again) and throws an interception coffin nail into OSU’s weekend.

4Q: 6:09: Oklahoma State 35 | Iowa State 48: For some reason, Campbell and Co. decided to go for 2 instead of kicking the extra point. What appear to be 2 points for ISU is called no good by the official. A review overturns that.

4Q: 6:09: Oklahoma State 35 | Iowa State 46: In a cruel juxtaposition, the true freshman went deep just like the fifth-year senior did on the drive before. But his resulted in 7 points and a commanding lead.

4Q: 6:56: Oklahoma State 35 | Iowa State 40: Cornelius targets Tylan Wallace on a deep post route and the sophomore just couldn’t hold on to it. He could have score on that play. An incomplete pass on the next play spells THREE-and-OUT, instead.

4Q: 8:47: Oklahoma State 35 | Iowa State 40: On third and 4, Malcolm Rodriguez makes a huge open-field tackle to force the punt and give OSU a chance.

4Q: 10:25: Oklahoma State 35 | Iowa State 40: Justice Hill makes it 12-straight games with a rushing TD, a new Big 12 record.

4Q: 11:25: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 40: After picking up 10 when they needed 11 on a Tylan Wallace, catch. OSU goes for it on fourth and 1. Justice Hill picks up 2.

4Q: 12:21: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 40: A special teams snafu falls the right way for OSU. Sinor’s punt grazes off of De’Monte Ruth and is recovered by OSU at the ISU 23-yard line. Gotta get 7 here.

4Q: 12:31: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 40: A holding call on Johnny Wilson nullifies a 22-yard pass to Tylan Wallace. The Cowboys sputter again on offense and are forced to punt.

4Q: 14:12: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 40: Cornelius finds Tylan Wallace for a rare second-half highlight for 19 yards.

End of 3rd Quarter: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 40

3Q: 0:08: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 40: Jordan Brailford was somehow not called for targeting after a review. Cowboys catch a break. Cyclones make the kick and extend their lead to 12.

3Q: 0:08: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: OSU’s defense bows up and forces the field goal on a drive that started at its own 18-yard line. That’s a small win.

3Q: 3:19: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Any momentum the turnover caused was then negated when a whiffed block by Chuba Hubbard resulted in a strip-sack of Taylor Cornelius. ISU takes the ball back in the red zone.

3Q: 4:08: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Rodarius Williams logs his first career interception and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

3Q: 4:43: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Purdy gets into his own third and 8, but he’s able to convert it.

3Q: 6:23: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Nothing doing. Cowboys turn in their third three-and-out.

3Q: 7:36: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Cowboys badly need 7 points on this drive to stay with the Cyclones. I didn’t see myself typing that sentence today.

3Q: 8:19: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Jordan Brailford gets the sack on third down to force a fourth and 11.

3Q: 9:04: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: The Cowboys are called for back-to-back penalties: Bundage for a personal foul by grabbing the opening of the helmet and then A.J. Green for pass interference. Doing plenty of favors for ISU and its young QB.

3Q: 10:10: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Cornelius makes a little hay on the next drive with but is incomplete to Tyron Johnson on a third-and-7 play. Pokes punting again.

3Q: 11:06: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 37: Purdy finds Deshaunte Jones for a 23-yard score. The true freshman is dissecting OSU’s secondary like a seasoned vet.

3Q: 12:01: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 30: Purdy goes back to his biggest target, finding Hakeem Butler for 40 yards.

3Q: 12:35: Oklahoma State 28 | Iowa State 30: Cornelius only needed one play to score. He bootlegs right after the fake handoff to Hill and scurries into the end zone.

3Q: 12:46: Oklahoma State 21 | Iowa State 30: Cornelius gets things going early in the third quarter. He hits Dillon Stoner with a 32-yard rope. An initial TD is called back after replay shows Stoner was down by contact at the 1-yard line. First and goal.

Halftime: Oklahoma State 21 | Iowa State 30

The Cowboys head to the locker room down 9 to a team they were a 9.5-point favorite over. Iowa State seems to have itself a quarterback in Brock Purdy. He is 10-for-12 for 164 yards and two scores. OSU’s defense has been put on its heels most of the afternoon. Purdy also leads the Cyclones in rushing with 69 yards and a score.

Cornelius, on the other hand, has missed a couple of throws., but the brunt of the blame should fall on his offensive line. They have been unable to move anyone up front, making any rushing lanes and have allowed five sacks in two quarters.

2Q: 0:10: Oklahoma State 21 | Iowa State 30: To add to Kyle Boone’s tweet below. Death, taxes, OSU making a third-string QB look like Joe Montana, AND Mike Gundy toying with us and defying logic with his end of half time management.

2Q: 0:21: Oklahoma State 21 | Iowa State 30: Purdy is dropping more dimes than a jack-knifed Brinks truck. Finds Matthew Eaton for a 26-yard score in the end zone by placing the ball in the only possible spot where he could get it.

2Q: 1:29: Oklahoma State 21 | Iowa State 23: Purdy continues to push the ball down the field. Gets some help from Justin Phillips (to the ground and down the field) with a horse-collar penalty.

2Q: 2:21: Oklahoma State 21 | Iowa State 23: Cornelius finds Tyron Johnson for a 28-yard score.

2Q: 3:18: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 23: Cornelius finds Wolf for 27 yards and a huge first down.

2Q: 3:18: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 23: Johnny Wilson hears a phantom snap count apparently and surprises Cornelius with the ball. Cornelius is sacked on the next play for third and a mile. Not a great showing for OSU’s O-Line.

2Q: 5:36: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 23: Fourth try is a charm for the ‘Clones. Sheldon Croney makes his way up the middle and onto pay dirt with not much resistance from the Cowboys front.

2Q: 6:00: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 16: A false start pushed ISU back to the OSU 7. Purdy had a man open in the end zone but they can’t connect. ISU is flagged for another false start. Now second and goal at the 12.

2Q: 6:00: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 16: Brock Purdy hushes the crowd hitting Landen Akers in-stride for 55 yards on the first play of the drive.

2Q: 6:28: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 16: On third and 21, Cornelius is flushed from the pocket and has to throw it away. That was preceded by a short throw in the dirt that was called incomplete to Wolf. Pokes punt.

2Q: 6:54: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 16: Cornelius throws a backwards pass to Landon Wolf who nearly gets the first down. Play is called back for holding penalty on Tyron Johnson. More penalties issues for the Pokes.

2Q: 7:53: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 16: On third and 10, Purdy goes deep to Butler but Rodarius Williams plays the receiver and the ball well, batting it away and forcing the punt. Three-and-out.

2Q: 9:06: Oklahoma State 14 | Iowa State 16: Landon Wolf continues to impress taking the pass and diving over the pylon to pull the Pokes within 2.

It’s obvious that OSU has made a concerted effort to establish the ground game first the last two weeks. Has 15 rush attempts to 6 pass attempts so far. At this point, it has worked for the Cowboys. Much credit to Hill for overcoming some poor run-blocking in each of the last two weeks.

2Q: 9:13: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 16: Cornelius is a little high on a jumpball attempt to Tylan Wallace.

2Q: 10:26: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 16: Cowboys fight back with big runs from Cornelius and a big catch and run from Landon Wolf. Cornelius’ first incomplete pass was to Tyron Johnson in the end zone.

2Q: 12:37: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 16: And he looked Purdy good on that next run. He broke contain and trotted 29 yards untouched into the end zone.

2Q: 13:19: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 9: Cyclones go for it and Calvin Bundage had a bead on Purdy but played for the pass. He kept is for a first down gain.

2Q: 13:19: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 9: Kenneth Edison-McGruder makes a nice on second down to force the third-and-8. Cowboys hold on third to make it fourth-and-4.

End of 1st Quarter: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 9

Brock Purdy is 5 for 5 for 53 yards and a score. Putting in his third-string QB after one series was some great scheming for Matt Campbell, and some extensive scouting on OSU.

1Q: 1:30: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 9: No targeting call. But the Cowboys drive stalls after a sack. Pokes punt.

1Q: 2:43: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 9: Cornelius finds Woods for 19 yards on second-and-22. But multiple review storylines. Possible targeting on Tylan Wallace. Ball came loose but appears Woods was down.

1Q: 4:04: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 9: Chuba Hubbard returns the kickoff 33 yards to give Cornelius the ball at the OSU 38.

1Q: 4:04: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 9: Matt Campbell may be on to something here. Brock Purdy rolls right and finds his big target Hakeem Butler in the end zone.

1Q: 6:04: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 2: The Cyclones found a little rhythm on offense. A backup running QB? What could go wrong?

1Q: 6:56: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 2: Zach Sinor takes a snap off of his fackmask and can’t hold onto the ball. He boots it out of the end zone for a safety.

1Q: 7:11: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State  0: Whelp. Special teams matter.

1Q: 7:11: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 0: ISU brings late pressure and sacks Cornelius for a loss of 9.

1Q: 8:36: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 0: Cowboys get flagged for their second false start penalty early. Hill is bottled up for a loss of 4. Self-imposed third-and-10.

1Q: 9:02: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 0: Purdy comes up a hair short of first down. The Cyclones punt it back to OSU. Out of bounds at the OSU 17-yard line.

1Q: 10:49: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 0: Iowa State goes with Brock Purdy for a running QB option.

1Q: 11:03: Oklahoma State 7 | Iowa State 0: Cornelius attempts his first pass from the Iowa State 14-yard line. Touchdown to Jelani Woods in the end zone. Pokes strike first.

It’s all down hill from here.

CORNDOGstat

1Q: 13:27: Oklahoma State 0 | Iowa State 0: Taylor Cornelius fakes the handoff to Justice Hill and trucks it 48 yards on a third and 3. That’s a career-long run.

1Q: 13:39: Oklahoma State 0 | Iowa State 0: Quick three-and-out for Jim Knowles’ group. Thabo Mwaniki nearly won the tip drill for an INT. Cyclones punt it to Tylan Wallace who returns it 1 yard.

1Q: 14:40: Oklahoma State 0 | Iowa State 0: Trey Carter just runs over his man and Zeb Noland, sacking him for a loss of 10.

OSU wins the toss, will defer. Iowa State will start with the ball.

What do you guys and gals think of these all-black duds?

Iowa State will be without its best player.

The Cowboys are back home with a chance to push their conference record to 2-0 against a Cyclones team still stumbling out of the gate.

Zeb Noland is eyeing his fifth career start and his third on the road (he’s 1-1 away from home) and he’s looking to play spoiler to Taylor Cornelius, who owns a 3-1 record at home as QB1.

Oklahoma State enters Week 6 healthier than they were in Week 5 — returning human defensive torpedo Calvin Bundage — and Iowa State shows up with several of its own bumps and bruises, namely at QB and RB.

Can the Pokes take care of business and protect home turf in Stillwater? Will the ‘Clones finally put four quarters together? Will we ever get over the 2011 season? Let’s find out together.
