Game Over: Oklahoma State 48 | Kansas 28

4Q: 1:24: Oklahoma State 48 | Kansas 28: Jordan Brailford records his third sack of the day to turn the ball over on downs. Oklahoma State with the ball and chance to take a knee and run out the clock.

4Q: 2:38: Oklahoma State 48 | Kansas 28: Chuba Hubbard decides not to run out clock but to rush for his second touchdown of the year.

4Q: 2:44: Oklahoma State 41 | Kansas 28: OSU rides Justice Hill a couple or more times to gain a first down and try to chew up clock.

4Q: 4:19: Oklahoma State 41 | Kansas 28: Kansas gets cute and tries to fake right and go left with the on-side kick, but Kenneth Edison-McGruder falls on it to save any drama.

4Q: 4:19: Oklahoma State 41 | Kansas 28: Stanley picks on true freshman Tanner McCalister in the end zone and the Jayhawks score fast.

4Q: 4:32: Oklahoma State 41 | Kansas 21: Back-to-back first down conversions form Carter Stanley for 22 and 11 yards. He then hits Kerr Johnson for 7 yards and tries to hurry to the line. OSU calls a timeout.

4Q: 6:22: Oklahoma State 41 | Kansas 21: Cornelius picks up 10 on the ground and then follows that with connections with Landon Wolf and then a back-corner end zone TD to Tyron Johnson.

Cowboys gain some breathing room back up 20 with six minutes and change remaining.

4Q: 8:19: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 21: Three plays and a punt put the ball back in Tylan Wallace’s hands who has a nice return, giving OSU its best starting field position at the KU 37-yard line.

4Q: 9:44: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 21: Jayhawks were pinned at their own 6 to start the drive by Zach Sinor. Special. Teams. Matter.

4Q: 10:01: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 21: OSU can’t take advantage of the penalty. A reverse play gets grounded when Braydon Johnson runs into the Kansas defender but makes up a couple of yards. OSU has to punt after an incomplete pass on third down.

It’s a little too close for comfort on the road with lots of time left. Cowboy defense needs a stop here.

4Q: 11:23: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 21: OSU benefits from a KU pass interference that bails out a poor throw to Braydon Johnson.

4Q: 12:04: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 21: The Cowboys had a couple of chances to get off of the field. After a fourth-and-1 for KU is turned into a third-and-24, Pooka Williams picks up 21.

On fourth-and-3, the Cowboys give up a 31-yard touchdown pass to Steven Sims.

End of 3rd Quarter: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14

3Q: 1:56: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14: Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the drive sputters and Sinor punts it for the third time.

3Q: 3:17: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14: Justice Hill picks up 20 yards on the first play after the fumble recovery.

3Q: 3:37: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14: It’s a TO party! Kenneth Edison-McGruder takes back to momentum and the ball, stripping a KU receiver and takin’ it back.

3Q: 3:56: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14: The turnover seems to have lit a fire in KU’s offense who gets a first down.

3Q: 5:09: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14: Taylor Cornelius and Tylan Wallace are on a different page for the first time today. The result is OSU’s first interception.

3Q: 5:32: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14: Kansas ball but familiar story. Jayhawks can’t protect, can’t run block. OSU earns another there-and-out.

3Q: 7:25: Oklahoma State 34 | Kansas 14: After making it to the Kansas 11-yard line, the Cowboys once again are held to a field goal. Ammendola is good from 29.

3Q: 9:51: Oklahoma State 31 | Kansas 14: Cornelius finds Landon Wolf for 16, 39 and 7 yards on consecutive plays to push him to 105 yards on the day, and OSU into scoring position.

3Q: 10:28: Oklahoma State 31 | Kansas 14: OSU defense forces yet another three-and-out. Cowboys get the ball with a chance to extend a 17-point lead.

3Q: 12:34: Oklahoma State 31 | Kansas 14: Justice Hill runs right through a couple of defenders to pick up 10 yards and 6 points. Cowboys answer quickly.

Tylan Wallace has 104 yards on four catches for his fourth straight triple-digit game. Tyron Johnson has 74 yards on two catches. Each have a score. Justice Hill has 128 yards and a score on 20 carries.

3Q: 13:00: Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 14: After a 4-yard run, Cornelius finds Tylan Wallace on a 56-yard connection to put OSU in scoring position.

3Q: 13:55: Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 14: Kansas immediately makes OSU pay for its transgression with a 60-yard Pooka Williams TD. Pokes need an answer with a score.

3Q: 14:55: Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: On the first drive of the half, Oklahoma State had Kansas in third-and-5 when Thabo Mwaniki gets called for a defensive hold. First down KU.

Kansas to receive the opening kickoff of the third quarter.

Halftime Thoughts

The Cowboys should probably be up 35-0 after a sloppy, penalty-ridden first half. As Mike Gundy noted on his way to chew out his team in the locker room, he’s frustrated.

On the bright side, Taylor Cornelius is 7 for 8 for 165 yards and three scores. OSU is finally leaning on their bell cow back Justice Hill, who has a season-high 18 carries and 114 yards at halftime. The defense has looked pretty good against a struggling KU offensive line and QB, with

KUHALF

End of 2nd Quarter: Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7

2Q: 0:15 Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: Nothing doing for the Jawhawks. Mike Scott picks up his third sack on the season and David Beaty will let the clock run out on the half.

2Q: 0:27 Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: That was interesting drive. With a chance to run the clock out for the half, OSU had to its second timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty. Two straight run plays later and the Cowboys are punting with over 30 seconds remaining. KU ball on its 15 with 27 seconds left.

2Q: 1:28 Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: Another block-in-the-back penalty puts OSU behind to start its own drive. On the first play, a Tylan Wallace completion is nullified by a Jelani Woods hold.

2Q: 2:24 Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: A holding penalty puts KU behind the chains to start. Nothing doing and the OSU defense forces third-straight three-and-out.

2Q: 5:20 Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: After the penalty, Cornelius finds Tylan Wallace for 16 and picks up 4 himself, but the math doesn’t add up. Zach Sinor boots it 42 yards.

2Q: 5:20 Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: Logan Carter called for offensive pass interference. Follows the Jelani Woods PI called in the end zone. Jason McEndoo will have some whiteboard material this week.

2Q: 5:40 Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: OSU’s defensive front gets into the backfield often, forcing its second consecutive three-and-out. Short punt gives the ball to OSU on its own 37.

2Q: 7:05: Oklahoma State 24 | Kansas 7: Matt Ammendola chips one in from 33 yards out. By my count that’s an 11-point swing caused by two OSU penalties. Could be 28-0.

2Q: 7:49: Oklahoma State 21 | Kansas 7: Cornelius appeared to have crossed the goal line on a keeper but it was not reviewed. He then attempted to go to Jelani Woods in the end zone, who was called for pass interference. So a review could have resulted in 7 for OSU. Now third and goal from a mile.

2Q: 8:51: Oklahoma State 21 | Kansas 7: Enter Chuba Hubbard.

The Canadian speedster takes over the drive and picks up 42 yards in three plays to the 1-yard line.

2Q: 9:42: Oklahoma State 21 | Kansas 7: Justice Hill chews up chunk after chunk of Jayhawk real estate. At 14 carries for 105 yards early in the second quarter.

2Q: 11:29: Oklahoma State 21 | Kansas 7: Taylor starts at his own 39 5 of 6 for 148 yards and three TDs.

2Q: 11:29: Oklahoma State 21 | Kansas 7: Jordan Brailford picks up the sack on third-and-4 to force the Cowboys’ first three-and-out of the mornin.

2Q: 13:34: Oklahoma State 21 | Kansas 7: Cornelius goes back into the air, finding Tyron Johnson for 64 yards and his first TD reception of the year.

2Q: 13:55: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 7: Hill picks up 15 yards on the next play. Cornelius barely overthrows Braydon Johnson on a would-be TD.

2Q: 14:45: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 7: OSU started at its own 8-yard line due to a blocking in the back penalty. But Justice Hill spins his way out of a couple tackles in the backfield to pick up 13 yards.

2Q: 14:54: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 7: Kansas scores on the first play of the second quarter on a 20-yard pass to Kwamie Lassiter, who beat Bernard on a double move.

End of 1st Quarter: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 0

1Q: 0:29: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 0: Carter Stanely picks up 11 yards giving KU its best field position of the game. Penalties continue to be a thorn in OSU’s side.

1Q: 1:06: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 0: Cowboys force a punt but Jarrick Bernard roughs the kicker for a 15-yard penalty. Turns fourth-and-14 into a first-and-10.

1Q: 2:12: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 0: After a 21-yard pass to running back Pooka Williams, Kansas gives up a 7-yard sack to Justin Phillips.

1Q: 3:07: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 0: Not Jake McClure’s best kickoff. It bounces out of bounds after travelling 47 yards. Kansas will take over at its own 35.

1Q: 3:07: Oklahoma State 14 | Kansas 0: Landon Wolf pays off his first start with a first quarter touchdown. A holding penalty on Tyron Johnson’s defender is declined. That’s a 42-yard touchdown for the sophomore slot man.

1Q: 3:38: Oklahoma State 7 | Kansas 0: On third-and-5, Cornelius picks up about 4 1/2 on the QB run. Justice moves the chains on fourth-and-short.

1Q: 6:00: Oklahoma State 7 | Kansas 0: Cornelius finds Tyron Johnson for 10 yards and a first down on a quick slant.

More injury issues for Oklahoma State.

1Q: 6:54: Oklahoma State 7 | Kansas 0: OSU’s defense holds on third and 7. Gabriel Rui misses a 52-yard field goal attempt. Cowboys ball at OSU 35-yard line.

1Q: 7:50: Oklahoma State 7 | Kansas 0: KU direct snap to Pooke Williams who reverses to Steve Sims Jr for gains 23 yards.

1Q: 10:21: Oklahoma State 7 | Kansas 0: Carter Stanley gets the nod to start at QB over Peyton Bender and starts 2-for-2.

1Q: 10:21: Oklahoma State 7 | Kansas 0: Cowboys score first with an 11-yard strike to Tylan Wallace. Cornelius is 2-for-2 for 32 yards and a score. OSU leaned heavily on Justice Hill and the run set up the pass.

1Q: 11:28: Oklahoma State 0 | Kansas 0: After a holding penalty forced a third-and-long, Cornelius attempted his first pass of the game (nine plays in) and it was a 21-yard pass to Tylan Wallace.

1Q: 13:00: Oklahoma State 0 | Kansas 0: OSU feeds Justice Hill early.

Kansas wins the toss and defers. Oklahoma State will receive the opening kickoff.

Updates

Cowboys going all-white
Here’s the hype video you need
OSU will be without four starters from last week

Some younger guys will see increased reps.

Last week, Oklahoma State got wrecked by the suddenly surging Red Raiders of Texas Tech. The seven days since has been filled with a four-year starter leaving the program, clashes between Gundy and media (and between fans and everyone) and several reasons to recall a hapless 2014 season.

The Pokes should be a lock to spoil KU’s homecoming weekend as a current 17-point favorite, but fans and coaches alike would like to see something more. Can Cornelius right the ship? Can he even captain it? What happens if he has a rough start?

But winning cures all. If the Cowboys offense can rebound, if its defense can bow up and if the Pokes earn a W in dominant fashion, that Big 12 opener becomes resembles more a bump on the track than a season derailer.

So jump in, sit back (or forward on the edge of your seat) and join us as we keep track of the Cowboys’ first road game.
