Final: West Virginia 41 | Oklahoma State 45

Grier had one shot at the end zone. A.J. Green got to the ball first, batting it down along with any chance for the Mountaineers’ CFP hopes.

4Q: 0:02: West Virginia 41 | Oklahoma State 45

Will Grier did his best to get his team into the end zone with a drive fueled by 33- and 14- connections to Jennings and Sills. 2 seconds left. One play. Here we go.

4Q: 0:42: West Virginia 41 | Oklahoma State 45

Cornelius just pushed the Cowboys into scoring position with one of the most reckless, fun, pissed off drives I can remember.

Once they got down there, Chuba took did the dirty work on the ground.

Then Corn hit Tylan for the go-ahead score. Where have I seen this before?

4Q: 2:45: West Virginia 41 | Oklahoma State 38

Facing fourth-and-6, Holgorsen elected to punt, decide to the go for it and (maybe luckliy for WVU) the Mountaineers were called for a false start and had to punt anyway.

4Q: 4:47: West Virginia 41 | Oklahoma State 38

Cornelius answers in a big way with a couple of big runs highlighting the drive.

And his eighth rushing TD of the season.

4Q: 7:37: West Virginia 41 | Oklahoma State 31

Despite the penalty and the gifted yardage, OSU force WVU into a fourth down, but Dana don’t like no FGs. Once again that’s paid off for him on the road. Will Grier keeps it and picked up 6 yards and 6 points. The Mountaineers are back in the driver’s seat.

4Q: 9:18: West Virginia 34 | Oklahoma State 31

The Mountaineers threatened after their drive was kick-started by a 43-yard catch and run by tight end Trevon Wesco. And Grier took a couple shots at the end zone. Both were tightly contested but no yellow laundry on the turf.

A.J. Green is playing a hell of a game. West Virginia’s Biletnikoff semifinalist has two catches on nine targets and 32 yards and a score.

After two timeouts (one by either team), WVU still decides to go for it on fourth-and-5. A Devin Harper pass interference negates what looked like would have been an easy 6 for Kennedy McKoy. Reset that drive. First-and-goal at the OSU 5.

4Q: 10:49: West Virginia 34 | Oklahoma State 31

Taylor Cornelius nearly threw his third interception on this what are you thinking?! throw.

But he paid that off with this nice throw (and better catch) to Tyron Johnson.

Then Chuba did some Chuba things…

Before Corn went back to Tyron for this sweet fade in the corner of the end zone.

4Q: 13:50: West Virginia 34 | Oklahoma State 24

The Cowboy defense pays off Gundy’s conservative attitude forcing another three-and-out, the fifth by West Virginia.

Corn and the’Boys get the ball at the OSU 43 and need to make some hay, and more importantly some points.

4Q: 14:13: West Virginia 34 | Oklahoma State 24

The Cowboys picked up a nice 15 yards from Landon Wolf but stall out thereafter. Oklahoma State elects to punt from its own 47 when faced with fourth-and-3. I don’t hate it. There’s a lot of time left and Jim Knowles’ defense has been playing well in the second half.

Let’s hope I didn’t just jinx them. Grier takes over at his own 14.

4Q: 14:56: West Virginia 34 | Oklahoma State 24

Oklahoma State’s defense bowed up and allowed just 1 yard in three tries to hold the Mountaineers to a field goal. Huge bullet dodged for the Pokes and a big-time stand for its D.

3Q: 1:13: West Virginia 31 | Oklahoma State 24

The Cowboys looked ready to take the ball back completely grasp the momentum of this second half after forcing a three-and-out. But following punt was muffed by Dillon Stoner, giving the ‘Neers the ball at the OSU 17-yard line.

3Q: 3:03: West Virginia 31 | Oklahoma State 24

Oklahoma State chewed up 6:40 off of the clock and nearly found pay dirt with this grown-assed run by Chuba Hubbard before settling for 3.

The Pokes are within a score and the momentum after a 10-0 run.

3Q: 9:21: West Virginia 31 | Oklahoma State 21

The Mountaineers marched right down the field into OSU’s red zone before an sack-turned-ruled fumble gave the Cowboys the ball back.

By the way, this is Will Grier on about half of those drawn-up blitzes.

3Q: 12:25: West Virginia 31 | Oklahoma State 21

The Cowboys answer quickly with a healthy dose of Chuba. The freshman RB accounted for 27 of 69 yards both on the ground and in the air.

He finished it off with this nice pass and catch.

Halftime: West Virginia 31 | Oklahoma State 14
2Q: 0:06: West Virginia 31 | Oklahoma State 14

The Mountaineers earn their first 3 points off of now three OSU turnovers with a 43-yard field goal by Evan Staley to take a 17-point lead into the half. This drive was made possible by a 19-yard Kennedy McKoy rush and a 22-yard Gary Jennings reception.

2Q: 0:41: West Virginia 28 | Oklahoma State 14

Cornelius throws his second pick of the game on another bad decision.

2Q: 1:17: West Virginia 28 | Oklahoma State 14

Kennedy McKoy broke the bored with a 30-yard touchdown run to double up the Cowboys in the waning moments of the first half. Let’s see if OSU really tries to score with a minute less. OSU will get the ball to start the third.

2Q: 2:18: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

See below. There were three more snaps and then a punt. I’m not sure who has the ball.

This second quarter has been… fun.

WVU2ndQ

2Q: 3:01: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

You get a three-and-out! You get a three-and-out!

2Q: 3:27: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

The Cowboys can’t take advantage of the possession and are forced to punt after three tries to vacate the shadow of their own goal posts. Three-and-out No. 3.

2Q: 4:57: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

Justin Phillips grabs his sack of the year but the Mountaineers are able to make it down to the OSU 5-yard line.

Dana goes for is on fourth down and does not get the yard needed. OSU takes over on downs.

2Q: 8:47: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

Under pressure, Cornelius throws an ill-advised shot into double coverage. WVU safey Toyous Avery breaks on the ball and gets the turnover.

2Q: 10:41: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

Chuba jump cuts = ?.

2Q: 11:10: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

Oklahoma State’s defense gets the stop. Corndog gets the ball at his own 8-yard line. Nice start for Corn. He’s 10-for-12 for 119 yards and two scores.

2Q: 13:11: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 14

The Cowboys answer with a five-play 60-yard drive set up after the nice Chuba Hubbard kick return. LD Brown rushed it twice for 22 yards and set up a nice pop pass from Cornelius to Logan Carter for his first career catch and score.

2Q: 14:55: West Virginia 21 | Oklahoma State 7

Whelp, it took all of five seconds for Will Grier to find the end zone for the second time. Oklahoma State needs to answer on this next drive or risk finding itself in a very deep hole early.

End of 1st Quarter: West Virginia 14 | Oklahoma State 7

West Virginia is knocking on the Cowboys’ red zone after the big takeaway. Pokes in a precarious position.

1Q: 2:38: West Virginia 14 | Oklahoma State 7

Cornelius hit Tylan Wallace for a 14-yard pass but the ball was knocked loss and recovered by WVU.

1Q: 3:01: West Virginia 14 | Oklahoma State 7

Will Grier beat the Oklahoma State blitz again and again, marching down the field like that annoying furry bunny that used to be in commercials. He was 4-for-4 on that drive with consecutive strikes of 34, 14 an 13 yards..

1Q: 4:14: West Virginia 7 | Oklahoma State 7

The Pokes make use of that short field and Tylan adds to his Biletnikoff case with this highlight reel catch.

1Q: 6:21: West Virginia 7 | Oklahoma State 0

After being pinned deep at his own 9-yard line, Will Grier can’t muster a first down thanks in part to a false start penalty. OSU starts with decent field position starting at its own 47-yard line.

1Q: 8:03: West Virginia 7 | Oklahoma State 0

Oklahoma State gets its first first down of the game with Dillon Stoner picks up 17 yards on a motion play. That’s right, the same team that set the FBS high for first downs last week. Offense stalls on a missed deep-ball connection to Tyron Johnson in the end zone.

1Q: 8:41: West Virginia 7 | Oklahoma State 0

The Mountaineers turn in their own three-and-out. Will Grier had an open man with running room in Martell Pettaway on third-and-8 but just overthrew him. OSU ball at its own 40.

1Q: 9:58: West Virginia 7 | Oklahoma State 0

Nothing doing for the Pokes on that first possession as the Cowboys go three-and-out. Corn-to-Stoner connection on third down ended just short of the marker.

1Q: 11:44: West Virginia 7 | Oklahoma State 0

Not much in the way of opposition by Oklahoma State’s defense on that first drive. West Virginia didn’t have any trouble running the ball, averaging 9.5 yards per play on five carriers. The Mountaineers went 75 yards in 10 plays as Kennedy McKoy trotted untouched into the end zone.

Cowboys win the toss and defer. Will kick the ball to a high-powered Mountaineer offense to start.

Looks like the Pokes are going to be short-handed at some key spots on offense? How we feelin’ folks? ???

Somehow, Senior Day is here. An up-and-down season is winding down and a group of long-tenured Pokes are about to play their last game inside Boone Pickens Stadium. All-in-all, 17 seniors will take part in those special final home game ceremonies and possibly some juniors, as well.

But unlike last year’s home finale against Kansas, this edition packs quite the punch in terms of opponent with No. 9 West Virginia in town. And it provides plenty to play for with bowl eligibility hanging in the balance. The Cowboys need to win one of these last two to extend their season and a top 10 bowl streak of what would be 13 years.

So sit back, relax and try to play nice in the comment section. I’ll try to keep you informed and maybe even a little entertained with the most current clips, tweets, takes and half-thought observations.
