Position Battle: Cowboy Offensive Line Boasts Favorable Matchup Against Bears
Could be a big day for Hill and Hubbard.
The Baylor Bears enter Saturday with one of the worst defenses in the Big 12. They’re fresh off of giving up over 560 yards of total offense to West Virginia. This should be a favorable matchup against the Cowboys, who are trying to build off of an improved offensive performance last week.
As the Cowboys showed against Texas, the offense becomes much more consistent when they run the ball effectively. It allows the offense to feature playmakers like Justice Hill and Chuba Hubbard and it takes pressure off of Taylor Cornelius, increasing his efficiency in play-action.
OSU’s offensive line had their best game of the year against the Longhorns and they should be able to build on that momentum against a struggling Baylor front. The Bears are second to last in the conference in rushing defense, giving up 5.6 yards per carry in 2018.
The biggest challenge for the Pokes’ offensive line will be controlling defensive tackle James Lynch. The sophomore is one of the lone bright spots on the Baylor defense. He’s top 10 in the conference in both sacks and tackles for loss.
Expect the run game to be a large part of the Cowboys’ game plan headed into Saturday. If you remember, the Pokes’ offense during their last visit to Waco looked more like a Big 10 team than a Big 12 one. If Justice Hill and this offensive line can establish their advantage over a lesser Baylor front, Cornelius & Co. should be able to grind out a convincing win against the Bears.
