Ramon Richards Would Like to Play Both Ways
If there’s one thing the Cowboys probably don’t need, it’s more wide receivers. They are stacked for this year with the likes of James Washington, Jalen McCleskey, Marcell Ateman and Tyron Johnson set to headline one of the most lethal groups of receivers in the country.
But even that embarrassment of riches at receiver cannot suppress Ramon Richards’ confidence.
“I think they could have more competition if I lined up at receiver, to be honest with you,” Richards told Scout with his tongue resting firmly in cheek. “Nah, but they’re facing the best every day.”
Richards was asked a follow-up about the possibility of playing both ways his senior year. He admitted that he has brought it up to receivers coach Kasey Dunn and even OC Mike Yurcich.
“But we’ve actually already discussed some things. We’ll keep that for something for you all to see next year.”
Richards did get back to the original question, where he was asked how OSU’s young corners will benefit from lining up across from such a talented receiver corps in practice.
“They’re facing the best everyday. Guys like James Washington who can beat you over the top at any given moment. You have guys like Tyron who [is] real quick-twitch and explosive and Marcell, real fundamental. Chris Lacy is a guy who everybody really sleeps on but he’s one of the better athletes that we do have at this school. And then we have Jalen McCleskey in the slot, who’s just explosive. And Stoner who’s not even out here yet, but he’s a great receiver, as well.”
Who knows? Maybe we’ll see Ramon pull a James Castleman and line up opposite James Washington in next year’s bowl game.
