Last week we looked at Oklahoma State’s all-time leading point getters in program history.

It was fun, as much fun as four kickers and Barry Sanders can provide. Today we’ll look at what people expect to see when they see points — quarterbacks. OSU’s top five in touchdowns responsible for is all QBs with Barry Sanders’ 60 career scores being sixth in program history.

1. Mason Rudolph (2014-17) — 109

Mason Rudolph was responsible for a season-record 47 touchdowns as a senior in 2017.

Rudolph threw for 37 that year and ran for another 10. It broke Barry Sanders’ nearly three-decade-old record of 44 TDs from his Heisman-winning season in 1988.

In total, Rudolph threw for 92 touchdowns and ran for the other 17. He never had a receiving touchdown but did have three catches for 53 yards in his career.

2. Zac Robinson (2005-09) — 88

More of a dual-threat quarterback, Zac Robinson had 22 rushing touchdowns and 66 passing scores in his career.

He scored the most as a junior when he accounted for 33 touchdowns (25 passing, eight rushing). In that junior season, Robinson threw for a career-high 3,064 yards.

3. Brandon Weeden (2007-11) — 76

The majority favorite as the best OSU QB ever (although not my pick), Brandon Weeden’s 38 TDs responsible for in 2011 is the fourth-most any Cowboy has had in a season behind Rudolph (2017), Sanders (1988) and *drum roll* Taylor Cornelius (2018).

A pocket passer, Weeden ran for only one touchdown in his college career, doing so in the Fiesta Bowl.

4. Mike Gundy (1986-89) — 66

Not including bowl games (because they used to do that for some reason) Mike Gundy ran for nine scores in his career and passed for 54.

In 1988, Gundy was responsible for a season-best 21 scores. He threw for 2,163 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions that season. Despite running for nine TDs in his time as OSU’s QB, Gundy actually finished his career with -248 rushing yards. Thanks, sacks.

5. J.W. Walsh (2011-15) — 61

Probably the most surprising name on this list, J.W. Walsh’s touchdowns are split 36/25.

As a senior in 2015, Walsh was essentially the red-zone QB. Even with Rudolph playing most of the games, Walsh accounted for 26 of OSU’s touchdowns that year, as he ran for 13 and threw for 13. Chris Carson ran for the second-most TDs for OSU that season with four.
