Report: Division-II All-American Transfer Wide Receiver Schedules Oklahoma State Visit
Abshire had 1,057 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore this past season.
The Cowboys might be after their next Leon Johnson.
Cameron Abshire, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound wide receiver from D-II Emory & Henry University (Va.), announced an Oklahoma State offer last week. 247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported that Abshire will take a visit to Stillwater on Monday and also has visits schedules to Colorado (April 9) and Missouri (April 17). Since hitting the portal on Friday, he has also announced offers to West Virginia, Texas State, Marshall, Temple and others.
He should have two seasons of eligibility left.
A few years back, OSU grabbed Johnson, a 6-foot-5 receiver, out of the portal from D-III George Fox. Johnson was initially set to redshirt during the 2023 season, but injuries in the receiving room saw him step in and catch 33 passes for 539 yards and a touchdown, helping the Pokes to the Big 12 title game.
Out of Roanoke, Virginia, Abshire redshirted at Emory & Henry in 2022 before catching 38 passes for 661 yards and six touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2023. He led the Wasps in receiving yards and touchdowns that year.
He was even better as a redshirt sophomore, catching 51 passes for 1,057 yards and 13 touchdowns. The AP named him a D-II All-American in December. Abshire had five games with at least 100 receiving yards, including an eight-catch, 158-yard, two-touchdown game to close out the year. He had multiple touchdown catches in five games.
By the looks of it, OSU is after another big-bodied receiver. FCS Tennessee State transfer Karate Brenson, listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, also announced an OSU offer last week.
After losing starters Brennan Presley (graduation), Rashod Owens (graduation) and De’Zhaun Stribling (portal) this offseason, OSU has rebuilt its receiver room through the transfer portal. OSU added three receivers in the first portal window in Shamar Rigby (Purdue), Sam Jackson V (Auburn) and Jaylen Lloyd (Nebraska). Of that trio, Rigby has a frame (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) comparable to Abshire. Jackson and Lloyd are each listed at 5-10.
