Report: Mike Yurcich at the Top of List for UTEP Head Coaching Vacancy
As was expected, with Oklahoma State’s offense humming — for the most part — its conductor would get looked at for a job or two. According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Yurcich is one of the names at the top of the list for the recently vacated head coaching position at the University of Texas – El Paso.

On Sunday, Sean Kugler stepped down after five seasons at UTEP, following the Miners’ 35-21 loss to Army and the school’s first 0-5 start since 1992. Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey was the other name mentioned at the top of the school’s list.
Yurcich previously interviewed for the offensive coordinator position at Auburn now held by Chip Lindsey and was also reportedly contacted by Nick Saban about the same position at Alabama. But the thinking is that Yurcich would hold out for a head coaching position. And more schools are likely to be interested as the season rolls on and into the offseason.
Recently Mike Gundy commented, coyly, on what may be an inevitable jump for his OC. “I can’t say he’s not a good candidate [to leave for a head coaching job] somewhere.”
