Report: Oklahoma State Dismisses Miami Transfer Safety Zaquan Patterson
OSU loses a transfer safety.
Oklahoma State has dismissed Miami transfer safety Zaquan Patterson, according to a report from On3’s Brett McMurphy.
Patterson played in 12 of the Hurricanes’ 13 games as a true freshman last season. He finished the year with 19 tackles and three pass breakups.
Before that, Patterson was a blue-chip recruit from south Florida. 247Sports listed him as the No. 63 player in all of the 2024 recruiting class, which made him a top five safety in the class and a top 10 player from the state of Florida. Along with his Miami offer, Patterson had offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas and many others coming out of Chaminade-Madonna High School.
Patterson announced his commitment to the Cowboys via the transfer portal on May 8.
The Cowboys hit the portal hard in the offseason, and that included at defensive back. Mordecai McDaniel (Florida/Charlotte) and DeAndre Boykins (North Carolina) joined Patterson as portal safeties on the roster. The Cowboys also added junior college transfer Jeremy Cook Jr.
That added to a promising unit of internally developed safeties — guys like Landyn Cleveland, Cameron Epps, David Kabongo, Dylan Smith and Parker Robertson.
Patterson was slated to become one of the four-highest ranked players of the Mike Gundy era alongside LSU transfer cornerback JK Johnson.
This news comes just 10 days out from the Cowboys’ season-opener. Oklahoma State plays UT-Martin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 — a Thursday.
