Tennessee Titans Sign Brandon Weeden

It looks like Brandon Weeden’s NFL career isn’t over just yet. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Tennessee Titans will add the former Oklahoma State quarterback to their roster.

UPDATE (4:05 p.m.): This became official on Tuesday afternoon. Here is the report.

The Titans worked out quarterbacks on Tuesday, and ended up reaching a deal with Weeden, the 22nd overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft. Weeden joins Mariota and Cassel on the 53-man roster, and the Titans also have former Western Kentucky quarterback Tyler Ferguson on the team’s practice squad.

Because of his experience in Dallas, which uses an offensive system similar to the one in Tennessee, Weeden’s transition should be smoother at the start.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Titans have waived linebacker Josh Carraway, a seventh round pick out of TCU who has been inactive the first four games. [Titans Online]

Titans starting quarterback Marcus Mariota is currently listed as day-to-day after suffering a hamstring injury against the Texans on Sunday. As of now, former New England and Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel is listed as Mariota’s backup.

Weeden hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2015, when he started three games with the Dallas Cowboys, got cut, and then signed with Houston where he started one game with the Texans. Weeden spent two years in Cleveland after being selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Browns.

Weeden’s career numbers in the NFL include 6,462 passing yards while completing 57.9 percent of his passes. He’s thrown 31 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

Here’s hoping that if he actually sees the field for the Titans, Weeden can make something happen.
