Sam Mayes Goes on Epic Oklahoma State Football Rant Following KSU Loss

Former Oklahoma State football player and current Franchise radio host Sam Mayes did not seem pleased with Oklahoma State’s 45-40 loss to Kansas State last Saturday.

Mayes has gone on rants before, but this one was a gem. You can listen to the full thing here, but I transcribed a bit of it below.

“I cannot believe that Gundy lost three home games this year,” said Mayes who had an issue with Gundy saying that he thinks OSU had more talent and should have beat KSU.

“No crap you should have beat that team because you’re better athletically,” he continued. “Kansas State is an awful football team. They’re not good at all! (Skylar Thompson is) in there like John Freaking Elway throwing the ball down the field. Glenn Spencer is on a milk carton somewhere.”

He discussed how he consumed the game.

“Then we sit down at 2:30, turn on Oklahoma State and watch Kansas State take them, ease them down and hump them for four quarters on national television. You know why I am the way that I am? That is why! Because of what you saw on Saturday!”

?

“It’s absurd. Three home games. You have three potential first round picks on this team, and you’re telling me you’re just going to take it from Kansas State?

“Screw the urgency part. You’re the biggest stick on the field. Get out there and swing it recklessly! Go out there and just play the game. Let it all hang out, Mike. You let it all hang out in your press conferences on Monday. How about you let that sucker out on Saturday? Give me a break!”

I obviously don’t agree with the presentation, but there are some nuggets of truth in here. OSU has always seemed like it purposefully limited itself offensively, which becomes frustrating. And Thompson did kinda look like Elway, which is obviously not good.

I can’t even begin to imagine what Mayes will do, though, if Kansas pulls off the unthinkable. Here’s the full audio if you want to listen.
