Six Statistical Records Oklahoma State Players are Chasing Against Virginia Tech

Published

on

When Oklahoma State takes on Virginia Tech in Thursday’s Camping World Bowl, there won’t be a ton on the line. It’s a glorified exhibition matchup and not even a very good one at that. However, winning 10 games matters to both Mike Gundy and Justin Fuente, and gaining a little momentum going into the postseason should be considered paramount for the Pokes after losing two of their last four games (nobody wants to make that three of five).

Plus, some pretty amazing OSU records are still up for grabs (or have yet to be extended) when the orange and black take the field later this afternoon. We’ll start with the most obvious one where The President is trying to take down Rashaun Woods and go from there.

4,414 Receiving Yards (career)

Washington has 4,346 receiving yards to Rashaun Woods’ 4,414. He needs 68 to tie and 69 to reset a record I thought would stand forever. If he gets there, he’ll have earned it against a Virginia Tech defense that has only allowed three opponents pass for more than 260 yards. Additionally, Ryan Broyles’ Big 12 record is in semi-jeopardy, too. The OU standout is at 4,586 yards which means Washington needs 241 yards to impeach him. Not likely but also not inconceivable.

42 Receiving TDs (career)

Washington currently sits at 38 TDs while Woods has 42. Justin Blackmon is between them with 40. It would be pretty impressive for Washington to catch Blackmon, let alone Woods on Thursday against the Hokies.

13,267 yards and 90 TDs (career)

Mason Rudolph already owns these records — he leads Brandon Weeden by 4,007 yards and 15 TDs — so this record won’t fall on Thursday, but it could be reset. Rudolph could get to 13,500 yards and 95 TDs, both of which will be broken by Spencer Sanders in four years difficult to ever touch. Also, Rudolph needs 198 yards of offense to move into 5th all time in Big 12 history behind Landry Jones, Graham Harrell, Colt McCoy and Baker Mayfield.

224 receptions (career)

James Washington (221 receptions) needs four catches on Thursday to move past Hart Lee Dykes into third all time in total receptions in OSU history. He also needs 100 yards to take down Woods’ school record of 20 100-yard receiving games (they’re currently tied).

4,727 passing yards and 37 TDs (season)

Rudolph, who currently has 4,553 yards needs 175 yards to eclipse Weeden’s single season passing yardage record of 4,727 yards. Those two already own the five most prolific passing seasons in Cowboys history. Rudolph needs 3 passing TDs to surpass Weeden’s single season record of 37. He already owns the total TDs accounted for record with 45 (he surpassed Barry Sanders in the final regular season game).

1,522 receiving yards (season)

Washington needs just 100 yards to get to 1,523 on the year. That would be the third-best receiving season in OSU history.
