Spencer Sanders Posts Cryptic Instagram Ahead of Bedlam

Will we see the true freshman QB play against OU?

Mike Gundy shot down this week the notion that another quarterback — outside of starter Taylor Cornelius — would share reps with the 1s this week ahead of Bedlam.

“It’s just not as productive, meaning that you have to share reps during the week,” said Gundy. “That’s the one thing I think the public doesn’t understand is: We only get so many reps to get guys ready to play, and there are a few new things that go in every week. Especially a quarterback like Taylor, who doesn’t have a lot of reps in his career anyway, you just say, ‘OK, we’re going to put another guy in there and share reps with him and let him go in and play a couple series in a game.’ That doesn’t give us the best chance to win.”

Whether that was a smokescreen or not is yet to be determined, obviously, but true freshman QB Spencer Sanders left one to wonder on Friday night with a cryptic Instagram post with a caption ??.

My mentions quickly filled up with a, “Is it happening?!” Here’s my answer: Sanders starting Saturday against OU is as likely to happen as Gundy showing up in Norman bald-headed with flip flops and a t-shirt. It ain’t happening.

Still yet, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of Sanders … perhaps … getting into the game at some point. Again, everything Gundy has said to date debunks that idea, and there’s been no back-door rumblings of a plan to start Sanders, but Gundy’s never been one to tilt his hand to begin with.

If you’re taking bets with your buddies, hedge emotionally that we see Cornelius take the first snap on Saturday. Then cross your fingers and toes and wait to see what happens.
