The 10 Best (and Worst) Stats from OSU’s Loss to Iowa State

Published

on

Another loss, another view of the dark side of the 10 stats series.

I broke this up into good and bad stats for Oklahoma State. When someone asks which I’d rather hear first, I say the bad to give myself something to look forward to, and that’s what I did with this list.

The Bad

7: Entering Saturday’s game, Iowa State had six sacks this season. Against OSU, the Cyclones had seven.

2: The number of true freshman quarterbacks who have lit up OSU at home this season. Brock Purdy was 18-for-23 with 318 passing yards and four passing touchdowns. He also ran for another 84 yards and a score.

87: The Cowboys gave up 87 yards in penalties against Iowa State. It’s the fourth time this season, OSU has given up at least 70 yards from penalties, the highest being the 112 yards off nine penalties against South Alabama.

4: The Cowboys are 1-4 in their past five Big 12 games in Boone Pickens Stadium.

6: Entering Saturday’s game, OSU had beaten Iowa State six straight times dating to 2011 (sigh). OSU broke a similar streak of nine straight victories against Texas Tech earlier this season

The Good

12: Justice Hill has scored a rushing touchdown in 12 straight games, a Big 12 record among running backs.

1: Redshirt freshman Cowboy back Jelani Woods caught his first career touchdown Saturday, a 14-yard reception in the first quarter.

8: Jordan Brailford now has eight sacks this season. With a minimum six games left, Brailford is one sack away from being on the Cowboys’ top 10 list for sacks in a season.

0: OSU has given up 0 points on opposing teams’ opening drives this season.

48: Taylor Cornelius’ 48-yard run the the first quarter was the longest by an OSU quarterback since J.W. Walsh ran for 64 against Texas Tech in 2015.
