U17 World Medalist Tanner Hodgins Commits to Oklahoma State
David Taylor picks up another big commitment.
David Taylor’s dominance on the recruiting trail continued Thursday night with the pickup of another age-level world medalist.
Tanner Hodgins, a class of 2027 wrestler, announced his pledge to Oklahoma State. Hodgins, out of New Jersey, is coming off winning bronze at the U17 World Championships at 92 kg (about 203 pounds) earlier this year in Greece.

Hodgins is the No. 13 wrestling on MatScouts’ big board for the 2027 class. Flo lists him as the No. 26 guy in the class, but that ranking hasn’t been updated since April.
Hodgins showed a great bounce-back ability at the World Championships. He dropped his first bout of the tournament to eventual silver medalist Amirali Abas Alizadeh (Iran) before getting pulled back into the repechage and winning three straight matches to earn his medal.
To earn his spot on that team, Hodgins won the U17 U.S. Open at 92 kg. His five matches in that bracket included three techs (one of which came in the final) and a pin in the semifinal.
Hodgins took on Adam Waters at Flo’s Who’s Number One last month. Waters, committed to Ohio State as a Top 10 wrestler in the 2026 class, and though Hodgins lost that bout, it was highly competitive with Waters winning 4-2.
According to jerseywrestling.com, Hodgins took third at states as a sophomore at 190 pounds and took sixth as a freshman at 165 pounds.
This marks Taylor’s second commitment in the 2027 cycle, as Hodgins joins Stillwater High product Ignacio Villasenor, who ranks fourth in the class in Flo’s rankings. This commitment also comes on the heels of OSU signing to top 2026 class this week, a class that includes four of the top 10 wrestlers in the cycle.
