WATCH: Mike Gundy Announces Scholarship to Former Walk-On Receiver Cale Cabbiness
These never get old.
These never get old.
Cale Cabbiness, a former walk-on Oklahoma State wide receiver got some good news on Thursday. Former is the operative word.
Mike Gundy was addressing his team at the Sherman E. Smith Training Center. The topics of “loyalty and commitment” came up and the punchline was
“So that’s when we have a chance to give a guy a scholarship like Cabbie!”
We then get to see the team dogpile the third-year Cowboy before Cabbinness calls home to share the good news.
It isn’t the first time Gundy has shown some emotion for the Cowboy wideout. Cabbiness first gained fanfare two seasons ago when his first career catch — a heady 24-yard grab gathered inbounds — helped the Cowboys seal a road win at Boise State. After the game, Gundy played “Cabbie’s” hype man.
Cabbiness also hauled in two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown in OSU’s win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff last season.
That experience and his three years in the system should help Cabbinness as he’s set for an increased role in 2023. Over the offseason, OSU lost four scholarship wide receivers to the transfer portal and Braydon Johnson to exhausted eligibility, losing four of its top five receivers from 2022. Spring practice commences on March 20.
