Weathers Absent from OSU’s Opening Practice, Remains Indefinitely Suspended
Mike Boynton addressed Michael Weathers’ absence at OSU’s first practice.
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State basketball player Michael Weathers briefly appeared in court Monday morning for his grand larceny case where he was arrested for allegedly stealing a woman’s wallet at a bar Sept. 9.
Weathers’ next court date was schedule for 10 a.m. Nov. 5, according to the Tulsa World‘s Mark Cooper, who attended Monday morning’s hearing. The Cowboys start their season with an exhibition against Ouachita Baptist on Nov. 4 and travel to Charlotte on Nov. 10.
Suspended #OKState guard Michael Weathers made a brief appearance in court this morning regarding his felony grand larceny charge. His next court date was set for Nov. 5 at 10 a.m.

Weathers has since been suspended indefinitely from team activities, thus he was not at Monday’s first practice.
“I don’t know when or if to expect him back,” OSU coach Mike Boynton said Monday. “That’s hard to speculate on. Obviously, it’s an ongoing process. I’ll just say this, and I’ll leave it there: Certainly disappointed in that he would put himself in the position to affect not only his own self but someone else, our team, the university. It’s not something that we condone. It’s something that we take very seriously. That’s the reason he’s not been a part of our team since then, and we’ll just kind of wait and see where the process goes until we make any further comments or discussion.”
Weathers, a guard, transferred from Miami (Ohio), and sat out last season. He was expected to be a key contributor for Boynton and OSU this season and would’ve likely been the team’s starting point guard. In Weathers’ absence freshman Isaac Likekele and graduate transfer Mike Cunningham look to gain more on-court responsibilities.
“I’ll tell you this, I’m obviously pretty transparent as most of you know, but I’m not worried about (Weathers) today,” Boynton said. “I’ll go to practice and whoever’s out there, I’m going to coach. It’s nothing against him or anybody else in that situation. We obviously had some situations come up last year, and we really don’t focus on that. Obviously we try to help these kids as much as we can. We bring them in here, we want them to develop and become better people. But as far as the team and as we get prepared for the season, we really just focus on the guys that are available and try to do the best with what we have at our disposal and that will be no different when we step out here in practice and until we hear otherwise on him, that’s the way we’re approaching it.”
