Who Are the Top Football Recruits in Oklahoma for 2019?

According to 247Sports, Oklahoma State already holds a commitment from the No. 2 overall player in the state in the Class of 2019 in tight end Grayson Boomer, and there’s a handful of other in-state prospects the Cowboys are still hunting for.

So which prospects is OSU in on for 2019, and which prospects are worth keeping an eye on as the staff looks to round out its class? Let’s take a look at the top recruits in the state and get an idea.

By now you’ve surely heard the name of five-star Booker T. Washington star Dax Hill, but it bears repeating: he is the white whale of the 2019 class for Oklahoma State, and a commitment from him would give OSU its second-highest rated recruit … ever.

Hill has OSU among his top 12 schools.

Four-star receiver Demariyon Houston is another in-state recruit who has garnered an offer from OSU. He’s still on the rise in recruiting circles and with 10 offers and counting, it’s only a matter of time before the Pokes are banging with the big dudes nationally for this downfield threat from Millwood. He’s made numerous visits to OSU and has strong interest in the Pokes and their tradition of churning out elite receivers.

OU has put its name in the hat for Houston’s teammate, running back Marcus Major, and I expect OSU to inevitably do the same.

Major is a freakish talent and at 6-foot, 181-pounds, he brings a unique mix of size and strength that should make him a star at the next level.

Putnam City pass-rusher Collin Clay picked up an offer last year and has since blown up, garnering offers from North Carolina, Arkansas, Duke, Florida and Georgia among the many.

As for now, though, OSU is the only major local school to hop aboard as OU slow plays the 6-foot-5, 229-pounder. It’s unclear if the Sooners will offer, but he’s been in contact with the staff. An OU offer could change his recruitment dramatically. OU is the favorite in the 247Sports crystal ball for Clay.

I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see OSU take a keen interest in Owasso gunslinger Will Kuehne, a solid pro-style QB in 2019 just down the road.

Right now it’s pretty clear four-star Grant Gunnell is the top man on OSU’s board, but Kuehne could be a nice fallback plan if OSU whiffs on its top targets. If Spencer Sanders comes in and shines as a freshman this season, I would expect QB recruiting would become increasingly more difficult. Which makes a lesser-heralded prospect like Kuehne an intriguing, worthwhile option to explore.

Plucking a kid from Norman is always fun, so defensive end Cole Mashburn piques my interest. The Norman North native has six offers — Nevada, Tulsa, Texas State, Iowa State, Memphis and North Texas — and more could be coming.

Mashburn has a strong, sturdy frame he’s already filled out nicely. And in a system at OSU, he could grow into a monster off the edge. I’ll be especially intrigued by Mashburn if OSU hands an offer to him and OU doesn’t. A kid from Norman being overlooked by OU could make one heck of a chip-on-the-shoulder story in a few years.
