100 Days of Summer: Get to Know No. 76 Dylan Galloway

Our summer-long countdown leads us to a freshman who’s already made an impression on the Cowboy coaching staff.

How he got to OSU

Galloway was a bit of a bargain find for former OL coach Greg Adkins who extended an offer shortly after Galloway attended one of OSU’s joint satellite camps hosted by University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The three-star prospect out of Coppell High School (Dallas, Tex.) only received three other scholarship offers — Nevada, UT-San Antonio and Arkansas State.

What he’s done in Stillwater

Spent 2016 contributing as a member of the scout team while he redshirted. As a high school recruit, Galloway was listed at 270 pounds by 247Sports. OSU now lists the 6-foot-5 tackle at 310. He also boasts a 7-foot wingspan according to his high school coach.

But the freshman has done more than just put on weight in his year in Stillwater. He’s obviously impressed the coaching staff. Here’s Mike Gundy on Galloway early in the spring — before the Cowboys had secured the promise of grad-transfer Aaron Cochran.

“All I can go on is the limited amount we’ve seen up to this point,” said Gundy. “If you ask me that in two weeks I can probably give you a more accurate answer, but I think his credentials, measurements, movement, cerebral capability to learn and understand, his toughness is all very good.

“He’s showing some promise there, and we hope that he stays healthy because he’s got some of the numbers of a guy that could play early. We’ll need him to play early.”

Of course, the need for early playing time from Galloway is somewhat appeased by the aforementioned Cal transfer, Aaron Cochran. But prior to that announcement, Galloway was projected by many as the favorite to replace Victor Salako at starting left tackle.

Projecting his role in 2017

Even though Cochran is projected to start, expect Galloway to get plenty of reps this fall. He’s in line for a prominent role next year and beyond. The Cowboys will lose a lot after 2017 — Cochran and Zachary Crabtree as well as guard Larry Williams and center Brad Lundblade will have all exhausted their eligibility.

Noteworthy stats and highlights

At Coppell, Galloway filled in all over the line as he great into his immense frame. Now that he appears game ready, the highlight reels could come soon.

Here’s a look at Galloway punishing the competition during his prep days.
