100 Days of Summer: Get to Know No. 89 Tralund Webber

Our 100 Days of Summer series continues with a 2016 transfer who may be the most underrated player at the Cowboys’ most lauded position.

How he got to OSU

After two productive years at Blinn College, defensive end Tralund Webber had plenty of options as a member of the class of 2016. Even after committing to Minnesota, the offers continued to roll in for the No. 4-ranked junior college prospect according to 247 Sports.

Oklahoma came calling. Then Oklahoma State. Purdue, Arizona State, Washington State and others. It wasn’t until Webber made a trip to Stillwater that he re-opened his recruiting — if only momentarily. One day after his visit he had de-committed from the Gophers and was headed to Oklahoma State.

What he’s done in Stillwater

Since Day 1, Webber has been a difference maker. Without starting a single game, Webber finished second only to Vincent Taylor in tackles for loss (9.0) and sacks (6.0) in 2016. He also added three pass breakups.

Role in 2017

With Jordan Brailford returning, and guys like Cole Waltersheid, Jarrell Owens and Vili Leveni in the mix, the defensive end position is as deep as any at Oklahoma State. Somehow we ignore that Webber is the Cowboys’ leading returner in tackles for loss and sacks. With his big play ability, don’t expect any less than an increased role and continued production from Webber — if he doesn’t win a starting spot.

Noteworthy stats and highlights

Had four tackles and a sack in Oklahoma State’s near shutout of TCU. Recorded a tackle for loss in eight games. Only four returning Big 12 players had more sacks last season.
