The 1945 Football Championship Trophy Has Arrived at OSU

In the most pleasantly surprising news on Thursday, the Oklahoma A&M Aggies of 1945 were retroactively awarded the football national championship by the American Football Coaches Association.

Apparently, whoever is in charge of the trophy is really on top of their stuff. The national championship trophy has already arrived on the Stillwater campus. But a further explanation from Kevin Klintworth of OSU’s media relations staff explains how it already made its way to campus:

“We thought we might have a chance to win it,” Athletic Director Kevin Klintworth told ESPN. “I don’t know if we thought they’d be a favorite to win it, but we thought we’d be in the conversation.” He added that OSU found out about winning it several months ago, but the news became official on Thursday.

Since finding out about the news, the trophy has been “hiding in a crate in an equipment room for the last few months,” according to the report.

It’s only 71 years later, but it’s a big win for the media relations and marketing staff.
