OSU Baseball Needs Win — and Help — To Win Outright Big 12 Championship
As Oklahoma State’s edge on the diamond has slipped in recent days, so too has its lead in the Big 12 race. After falling 14-6 on Friday night to Texas Tech to give the Red Raiders the series win, the Cowboys now need a Game 3 win Saturday vs. Tech — and a slip from Texas — to win the conference outright.
Oklahoma State and Texas Tech face off at 1 p.m. in a must-win Game 3 to keep its outright hopes alive. Texas and TCU square off in Austin on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and, well, Cowboy fans should be complimenting their bright orange outfit with a little purple.
OSU’s series loss to Texas Tech is just its third all season, and it couldn’t have come at a more inopportune time. Not only does it hurt OSU’s chances of hosting a regional, which was already likely the case before this weekend, it puts OSU in a tie for first place in the league with Texas. If they remain tied following today’s developments, OSU will be co-champs and Texas will earn the No. 1 seed at the Big 12 championships because it holds a tie-breaker over the Pokes.
“I think clear as day you want to win the game,” Josh Holliday said via The Oklahoman. “That’s all there is to it. … The scenarios, the math problem, it means nothing now. You gotta go out and win.”
Celebrating a great senior class pregame today at 12:45 as we honor @Colehearrean_16, @jlittell13, @andyro_2 and @wacker_10! We appreciate all these guys have done on and off the field representing #okstate state and Cowboy Baseball! #P4L pic.twitter.com/aBN0rzwgXL
