Next Up in the Big D
With Jason Witten’s semi-abrupt retirement from the Dallas Cowboys, rumors are flying about a potential replacement in former Cowboy Blake Jarwin.
…Blake Jarwin has the athleticism and is a gifted receiver down the seam. We at least know they loved him enough to promote him from the practice squad to the 53-man roster to avoid him getting poached by the rival Eagles. Jarwin was one of four second-year players we discussed as having the most to gain during OTA’s and training camp. So far, it would seem as though he’s off to a great start. [BloggingTheBoys]
How impressive for a Stillwater walk-on to be lauded for his athleticism in the NFL? The offense in Stillwater hasn’t been able to effectively expose that tight end-on-defensive back mismatch since he left. That is until Jelani moved to Cowboy Back, right?
Summer Reads
Berry Tramel highlighted a read from an Iba-era player-turned-author, Gene Johnson, who covers some interesting parts of OSU sports history.
The basketball player on Henry Iba’s 1965 Big Eight championship team has authored his second book about the Cowboys. The first – Living My Dream – was published almost four years ago about Johnson’s days growing up in Seminole and then playing for Iba.
Now Johnson has written a second book, He Leads Me Beside Stillwater, a series of stories throughout OSU’s history. “A nostalgic look back at the way we were: Aggie/Cowboy athletes, teams, coaches and a handful of special people who supported them,” is how the book is subtitled. The book is available on Amazon. [NewsOK]
Color me interested – find Johnson’s second book here and his first here on the Big Eight championship team.
