Dez Bryant Makes Plea for Clemson QB Kelly Bryant to Join OSU

Dez Bryant is playing OSU pitchman during his down time.

Clemson QB Kelly Bryant lost his starting job this week to true freshman Trevor Lawrence, which led to his decision to redshirt and transfer. He is now one of the hottest transfer names on the market.

Bryant logged a 16-2 record as the Tigers’ starter and led them to the College Football Playoff last season. He’s expected to be eligible immediately in 2019, thus paving the way for him to likely be courted by many QB-needy programs.

Whether you should consider OSU among those or not is debatable, but Dez Bryant fired off a tweet pleading for Kelly Bryant to OSU to happen. OSU linebacker Patrick Macon didn’t disagree.

Bryant to OSU is a scenario I see as a longshot at best; he’s leaving Clemson because he lost his starting job, and for OSU, which has Spencer Sanders on deck as the next franchise QB, it can’t guarantee him any playing time. Would he really want to be a backup?

Further, OSU’s situation is still fairly unclear. Taylor Cornelius is gone after this season, but Sanders and Brown will be back, presuming they both redshirt and both stay with the program. If they’re both on the roster next season, it’d be hard to make a case for why Bryant would consider OSU’s talent-rich two-deep with no guarantees on playing time.

But given Bryant’s talent and pedigree, and given the uncertainty about what 2019 holds beyond Spencer Sanders, I’d think kicking the tires with Bryant to feel out what he’s seeking would be a conversation worth having. If only because what Dez says goes.
