Daily Bullets (Oct 30) – Simplifying the Offense, Getting the Right Players on the Field

Divide and Conquer

Mike Gundy said one of the biggest changes between K-State and Texas was the gameplan… a much more concise one.

…(T)he biggest theme for Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy with his coaching staff over the past to weeks was to simplify. Gundy felt his players were doing too much thinking and not enough playing. He wanted to see the game plan load lightened and allow the players to play more freely, more confident. It appeared to be the case for the Cowboys as it took a confident, free wheelin team to upset the sixth-ranked Longhorns like Oklahoma State did 38-35.

“I wanted us to get the players into plays they could execute,” said Gundy.

Mission accomplished as Gundy said against Texas that there was probably a 30 percent reduction in material in the game plan as opposed to the game plan two weeks ago in a 31-12 loss to Kansas State on the road in Manhattan. [GoPokes]

Fed Justice

Another reason Saturday night went so well had to do with how the Pokes used their running backs.

(Justice) Hill and (JD) King appeared for OSU’s first snap. Hill carried on the Cowboys’ first two plays. Hubbard joined Hill together later in the game, and the two of them combined to rush 32 times for 172 yards.

Hill was the point man all night. His involvement took some of the load of Cornelius, whereas at K-State it fell to the quarterback to make nearly all of the plays. That didn’t work out so well.

Saturday night, Hill got the ball. Cornelius and the offense got back on track. And now there isn’t as much screaming among the fan base. [TulsaWorld]

Getting all of your best athletes onto the field is always better than not – and the Cowboys appear to have figured out how to use some more of these talented backs.

This Halloween promo they showed at Homecoming was incredible.

Was there even a question who would win this?

This is incredible – what a guy.

What a running back – Pokes are churning them out.

Pokes made the list this week – you could argue Sinor the defensive player of the week with that punt.
