Conflicting Reports Surfacing on Big 12’s Looming Decision

The Big 12 could hold the deciding vote on whether or not FBS football is played this fall, and there are a lot of sources spilling a lot of different takes.

One comes from Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, who reported a “high-ranking Big 12 official” told him, “There’s an increasing sentiment that we’ll play.”

That sounds rather hopeful for college football being played this fall — especially in light of the Big Ten and Pac-12 postponing their seasons until the spring — but it isn’t the only information slipping through the cracks ahead of the league’s Tuesday evening meeting.

Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger reports a much murkier picture, saying the conference is “split.” Dellenger added that a small group within the Big 12 wants to play, a small group wants to cancel and a larger group wants to delay.

Dellenger reported that Big 12 athletic directors and presidents will have a joint meeting Tuesday evening starting about 5 p.m. That’s where the Big 12 presidents will hash things out, and the rest of college football could hinge on what comes out of it.
