Oklahoma State Makes Top 10 for Four-Star Defensive Lineman Ashton Porter
The Cowboys’ staff is doing well this cycle on the defensive front.
The 2023 cycle might just be kicking into full gear, but the Cowboys are already making some noise on the defensive front.
Oklahoma State made the Top 10 for four-star prospect Ashton Porter on Monday along with Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Grambling State, Miami, Nebraska, Northwestern and Texas. Three of OSU’s 2023 commitments are defensive line prospects in Jaedon Foreman, Ricky Lolohea and edge rusher Billy Walton. The Cowboys also made the Top 4 for Top 100 prospect Avion Carter.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, Porter is the No. 273 player in all of the 2023 cycle. He plays his high school ball at Cy Ranch in Texas. As a sophomore in 2020, Porter was a unanimous all-district selection when he recorded 32 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles. As a junior in 2021, he finished with 44 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and three sacks.
OSU’s 2023 class ranks 31st nationally at this early point in the cycle. That puts it sixth in the Big 12, but with most schools having about six commitments pledged, it’s too early to draw any overarching conclusions about the class at this point.
Porter has crystal ball predictions to land at Texas and Northwestern on 247Sports, and recruiting analysts on Rivals are also split between the Longhorns and Wildcats. If Porter were to pick the Pokes, he’d become OSU’s highest-ranked pledge in the cycle. Walton, the No. 606 player, in the class currently holds that honor.
