LIVE BLOG: Oklahoma State Looks to Bounce Back on the Road at Kansas State
Follow along for updates as the Cowboys and Wildcats square off.
LIVE UPDATES
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 42)
The Cowboys come up short on fourth-and-1 in their own territory. Turnover on downs.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 42)
The Wildcats capitalize on that turnover with a sustained touchdown drive. Avery Johnson has five total TDs.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 35)
Another interception. That’s three total TOs for Bowman. Wheels are falling off.
End of Third
The Cowboys are in danger of getting blown out on the road. Nothing going for OSU’s offense since the second quarter and a couple of self-inflicted wounds by the Cats is the only reason OSU is down more.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 35)
It’s wide open now. The Wildcats have scored 28 unanswered points.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 28)
Nope, three-and-out. These games are like roadwork for OSU’s defense.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 28)
Cowboys get another stop. Will their offense capitalize? We’ll see.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 28)
A couple miscues for Bowman. On first play, he turns the wrong direction and Ollie Gordon was not there to take the handoff. He then nearly threw a pick down the sideline. Since the Cowboy ran it with Bowman on back-to-back tries and had to settle for a FG, the Cowboys last five completed drives (minus end-of-half):
FUMBLE
PUNT
PUNT
INT
PUNT
Meanwhile, K-State has score three TDs in that span.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 28)
The Cowboys’ defense gets a stop. Brennan Presley nearly had a disastrous muff on that punt but looks like the ball just missed him.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 28)
The Cowboys travel 42 yards down the field before abruptly ending with another Bowman turnover. One play after a risky throw into triple coverage, Bowman gets picked off. If the Wildcats are able to score a TD off this TO, things will be out of hand fast.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 28)
And that’s why. K-State capitalizes (again) and OSU is down two scores after another huge chunk play.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 21)Â
The Cowboys’ opening drive of the second results in a three-and-out. Not a great way to come out of the locker room in a hostile environment.
Halftime: Oklahoma State 13, Kansas State 21
The Cowboys showed some good things and some not so good things on offense and defense.
Good thing: Ollie Gordon can still run the ball if you give him running lanes.
Bad thing: When you abandon said run game (or try it with your immobile QB) the offense seems to dry up.
Good thing: OSU’s defense showed its ability to get off the field…
Bad things: …as long as they don’t get gashed for a 30-plus yard chunk play. The Wildcats has three such plays in the first half.
OSU is down one score and gets the ball back to start the third. Grab your heart pills, Pokes fans.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 21)Â
And K-State, once again, capitalizes on its opportunity. Johnson finds Jayce Brown for a 55-yard TD. It looked like Cameron Epps was tripped up and hit the turf leaving Brown wide open.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 14)Â
A disaster. Bowman can’t corral a bad snap and K-State recovers it. A costly when OSU was getting into scoring position.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 14)Â
K-State makes OSU pay for not taking advantage on that last drive. DJ Giddens broke loose for a 37-yard run that was ballooned thanks to a horse-collar call on Trey Rucker. Johnson finds Garrett Oakley in the end zone on the next play. The momentum is all the way back in the Wildcats’ favor.
Drive Recap (OSU 13, KSU 7)Â
And that’s what it feels like when you swing it back the other way. The Cowboys settle for a FG after getting the short field. A couple of Alan Bowman runs really killed that drive.
Drive Recap (OSU 10, KSU 7)Â
That’s what a momentum swing feels like. On the first play of K-State’s drive, Korie Black steps into an Avery Johnson over-throw to pick it off.
Drive Recap (OSU 10, KSU 7)Â
That’s one way of doing it. With Ollie Gordon on the sideline getting checked out, Alan Bowman hits De’Zhaun Stribling on a flea flicker for a 77-yard touchdown.

Drive Recap (OSU 3, KSU 7)Â
OSU’s defense gets consecutive stops. The Pokes’ offense will take over on its own 18. Will they be able to pay it off?
Drive Recap (OSU 3, KSU 7)Â
Once again, the Cowboys march down the field but, once again, they settle for a field goal. Unfortunately, the kick was no good from 34 yards. That’s two overall effective drives that result in 3 total points. Seems like that will come back to bite the Pokes in a game like this.
End of 1st: Oklahoma State 3, Kansas State 7
The Cowboys are marching down the field on their second drive. Ollie Gordon is running down hill and the chains are moving. Can they keep it up?
Drive Recap (OSU 3, KSU 7)Â
The Cowboys get the stop, forcing the first punt of the game. They’ll take over at their own 14.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, KSU 7)Â
Bad news? OSU settles for a FG over a TD. Good news? Ollie Gordon’s 43 rushing yards on that drive were more than he’s had in either game the last two weeks.
Drive Recap (OSU 0, KSU 7)Â
An illegal shift penalty wiped a 33-yard TD off the board for Avery Johnson. Aside from that self-imposed stop, the Wildcats met little resistance marching down the field in their first drive. K-State was 2-for-2 on fourth downs and takes the momentum from the jump.
The Cowboys are on the road in search of their first Big 12 win. Standing in their way will be another conference contender in the same boat.
Both Oklahoma State and Kansas State were picked to finish in the Top 3 of the league, but one of them will come out of this weekend 0-2 in conference play. The Cowboys’ offense has been feast-or-famine through the air and slim pickings on the ground, while OSU’s defense seems to be figuring some things out. The Wildcats, however, boast a top-15 rushing attack and will look to run over the Cowboys’ Big 12-worst rushing defense. Wins rarely come easy in Manhattan. If the Cowboys want to steal one, they’ll have to work out the bugs of their offense against the No. 3 rushing defense in the league.
Regardless of how things shake out, we’ll be here to bring you all the updates, pithy tweets and half-baked takes.
