Oklahoma State Safety Cameron Epps Announces He Tore His ACL
The injury bug bites another Cowboy.
The Cowboys’ trip to Provo is proving to be even more costly than the gut-punch loss in the final seconds.
Oklahoma State safety Cameron Epps on Wednesday via Instagram announced that he tore his ACL. Epps went down in the Cowboys’ 38-35 loss to BYU near the Cougar sideline and didn’t return. A 6-foot-2, 205-pound redshirt sophomore, Epps has played in all seven of the Cowboys’ games to this point and made two starts. He has 11 tackles on the year, including 1.5 tackles for loss. He also has a pass breakup.
So, add Epps’ injury to the list. He joins quarterback Garret Rangel and left tackle Dalton Cooper as Pokes who suffered injuries in Provo, with Rangel breaking his collarbone and Cooper suffering a lower-body injury. Those injuries are part of a wide-scale visit from the injury bug the Cowboys have experienced this season. Collin Oliver, Nick Martin, Trey Rucker and Dylan Smith are all defensive starters who have missed time with injury this season. Gundy said on his radio show Monday that Rucker and Smith could return this weekend against Baylor.
If one or both of Rucker and Smith can’t return this weekend, the Cowboys will be rather thin at safety, likely relying on guys like Lyrik Rawls, UTEP transfer Kobe Hylton and former walk-on Parker Robertson. It could also be a spot where OSU plays some younger guys.
Epps came to Stillwater as a four-star prospect out of St. Louis. He played in all 14 of the Cowboys’ games last season as a redshirt freshman, starting 10 of the season’s final 11 games. He finished that season with 40 tackles and three interceptions.
OSU and Baylor kick off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Waco.
