Mississippi State Transfer Kanye Clary Commits to Oklahoma State
OSU gets its first player out of the portal.
The Cowboys grabbed a guard capable of putting up points out of the transfer portal.
Mississippi State transfer Kanye Clary announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Friday. A 5-foot-11, 190-pound guard from Virginia Beach, Clary averaged 6.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals in seven games this past season. He spent the previous two seasons at Penn State and averaged 16.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and a steal a game as a sophomore.
“Kanye is a fast point guard who will fit seamlessly into our up-tempo offense,” said Lutz in OSU’s release. “He has performed at a high level over the course of his career. While his 2024-25 season was, unfortunately, cut short by a leg injury, he’s full-go now and ready to be a playmaker for our team. I couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to Stillwater and Cowboy Nation!”
ESPN listed Clary as a four-star recruit in the 2022 class. He attended Massanutten Military Academy, where he averaged 25.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.8 steals a game as a senior. He chose Penn State over offers from Texas A&M, James Madison and others.
As a freshman with the Nittany Lions, Clary played in 32 games, playing 10.4 minutes per. He averaged 3.7 points a game as a freshman, showing flashes of what was to come like this 17-point game against Maryland or scoring a dozen in a win against Illinois.
That freshman potential was realized as a sophomore, as Clary started 20 games for Penn State and averaged 16.7 points per while shooting 38% from 3. He scored 20 or more points in 10 games and finished in double figures in all but five. He scored 29 points on 16 shots against Ryder that December. In January, Clary dropped 27 to lead the Nittany Lions past Wisconsin.
He left Penn State on some cloudy terms, transferring to Mississippi State. He played in seven games and made four starts with the Bulldogs but suffered a lower-leg injury that put him out for the rest of the season.
In games Clary has played at least 20 minutes in during his career, he averages 17.7 points a game.
Clary is the first player to join the Pokes out of the portal this offseason but won’t be the last. OSU had eight scholarship seniors on its roster this past season, and the Cowboys have been active in a ridiculously robust portal, with more than 30 reports linking OSU to various prospects. OSU also has two incoming freshmen signed and another committed in Ryan Crotty (signed), Mekhi Ragland (signed) and Ben Ahmed (committed). Only one possible scholarship returner has hit the portal at this point in Connor Dow.
